To get? If they say you need a filling or a crown, are you supposed to get a second opinion or something? I mean, that sounds time consuming.

Or just nod my head and say ok.

If you don't trust them to tell you the truth, why go to that dentist?

I mean, when I go to a dentist i just search what's in my insurance network and within distance of me. I don't go through much of a review process or have knowledge about teeth. So ultimately I do end up trusting them due to pure ignorance on my part.

So that kind of leads to my initial question. How do you come to a conclusion on what a good trustworthy dentist is?

Are there people who shop around for second and third opinions when trying to assess if they actually need a crown or something? Seems like a huge time sink

yes. my insurance is lousy, so i've had to tell the dentist that i can't afford to get their recommended treatments. it's not that they're lying, but they automatically try to sell you the cadillac when maybe a pontiac will do.

I don't imagine most people are knowledgeable either about what's needed. The reviews would be based on bedside manner I'd imagine.

Yeah, maybe this is the question I should be asking the dentist. How much of a difference is there between the cheap method and the pricier method. Or is this a cavity I can delay until it gets bad. Stuff like that

Some things are probably more recommendation, just have to get clarity with them to better understand. I refused to work with a particular oral surgeon and confirmed with my orthodontist that I could try another route.
