The final commissioning appointment is November 15th at 1pm. The utility company and a Tesla electrician will be here and as long as everything passes the utility company's inspection, they're going to turn the system on.

It's about damn time.

I placed the order on April 3rd of 2021 (I closed on the house on March 26th of 2021). Tesla didn't actually service the San Antonio area just yet, but I figured I would get in line early in case of high demand and covid-related supply chain issues.

Yeah, it has been an extremely long process. The biggest problems have been Tesla being overloaded with solar orders and supply chain delays. Tesla's project management has been very poor.

For example, let's say there's 20 steps in the process.

• They put your project in queue to do step 1.
• Two weeks later, step 1 is done.
• You go back in queue to do step 2.
• Two weeks later step 2 is done.
• You go back in queue to do step 3.
• Three weeks later, step 3 is done.

This goes on and on, and by the time they get to step 12, the application they submitted in step 2 expired. They don't realize it expired until they're getting ready to do step 12. So they do step 2 again instead of step 12.

• Step 2 is done, then you're back in queue to get step 12 done.
• Two weeks later, step 12 is done.
• You're now back in queue to do step 13.
• Step 13 is done after two weeks or so.
• You're back in queue to do step 14.

Then when they're getting ready to do step 14, they realize the application they submitted for step 6 expired. So instead of doing step 14, they're doing step 6 again.

I have to do:

• 1 credit application
• 1 credit extension
• a second credit application

Tesla has also had to submit two applications to the utility company to get permission to install because they let the first one expire. They submitted the first one in October 2021 and got the install done in June of 2022. Fast forward to October of 2022, the initial utility application expired because they didn't ask for an extension. So they had to submit the initial utility application again.

I got tired of Tesla giving me the run around on time estimates, so I started calling the utility company directly for updates. The utility company was confused about why the roof and powerwalls were already installed when they hadn't approved the (2nd) application to give permission to install. I explained the whole situation and they began to understand.

Fortunately, the utility company has been way ahead of their own timelines. Tesla submitted the second initial application on 10/26 and the utility company quoted a 2 to 3 week time frame to get me on the schedule. I got an email from the utility company in less than a week with the appointment time.

Yeah, at this point, I at least have the powerwalls functioning solely as backup power for the house. They're currently 65% charged, which is about 26.325kWh of power, which will last me a little over a day if the power goes out right now.
