Lamy is a German pen brand.

I bought a Lamy 2000 rollerball. I like rollerball because it is smooth and writes in a pinch. I am not familiar enough with fountain pens to say, but yeah I like my rollerball.

I've heard the 2000 is one of if not the best pen ever made. This is of course subjective but I've heard that floated around, perhaps because to some people something HAS to be the best.

So, what do I think of it?

First of all, it feels nice in the hand. It isn't too heavy or too light. I don't mind a heavy pen, and people do mistake heaviness for quality, but this one is a nice balance. easy to write with and in no way feels cheap. It is 24 grams. A Parker Jotter with a ceramic barrel is 14 grams, and a much larger other Parker I have I forget the name of is 47.

The finishing on it is very nice. The clip is spring loaded and feels nice. A lot of pens(Cross), have the clipping mechanism a weak point. This one doesn't feel 100% secure, there is a tiny bit of play, but nothing worrying. The spring mechanism makes it much harder to bend the clip, which is very appreciated. The cap clicks into place with a satisfying noise, and when posted, it feels secure. I have no doubts about its ability to stay on when posted. The cap to open up the pen and change the refill is very nicely machined into the design so much so I didn't even notice it at first. I had thought it was a front loader like most pens, but it's actually in the back. There is a very faint line showing where the cap is, it is so nicely integrated you almost can't even see it. This prevents the grip from being loose if you open it up and don't screw it on all the way.

The finish is also very nice. it has one of those slight woodgrain looks to it, but it's actually a material called Makrolon. It feels a bit like a faux-wood deal but it feels nice. It isn't too hard or too soft in the grip, which makes this very easy to write with.

So...how does it write? It feels nice in the hand, and it just glides. The ink is nice...I'd say on par with other nice brands. Nothing exceptional but still a quality ink. This is just the Lamy M68 rollerball refill in black. I have bought a few other Lamy M options but they haven't came yet. So I do not know how those inks, in other colors compare. This refill came with the pen, and the tip was not covered, as a result it skipped a little when I opened the package. It is fine now.

So, like...what's the deal?

To me it's just a nice pen. I get a little more enjoyment out of my Parker 1M rollerball, but that's because it has blue ink(Lamy will soon), the Parker medium is a hair thicker, and the weight and look of it I like more. But make no mistake, the Lamy 2000 is a joy to write with. While I like other things about my Parker, the Lamy can definitely be picked up at a moments notice to write whatever with. It makes good contact with paper and the pen tip doesn't scratch at all.

IS this worth the $50 I paid for it?

Yeah I'd say so. This is the kinda pen that you can own and refill for the rest of your life. One may think $50 for a pen, I would think $50 and that's IT because i'll keep and cherish this forever. That isn't how pens work because like with watches you just keep buying 'em, but you get my point. For YOU, you wouldn't need to ever purchase another pen again.

The rollerball can be had cheaper than the fountain. I found it from a seller on walmart for $50, when I normally have seen it 70+

I...don't think this is fake...if so i'll be like the fool who thought Apothic Red was 1976 Heitz Cellars.

the rollerball on their website is $300, while the ballpoint is like $70 so

if you're happy with it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks though

Glad you got something you like. I still think you should have gotten a fountain pen though.

Yeah nobody is paying that price. They list their fountain pen one at $400, but it is sold all over the place for half that.
