Had a teams call scheduled with them at 2pm to go over some routine database improvements, no big deal. Shortly before this though I had a home emergency and had to dash off and it completely slipped my mind. I didn't get back to my desk till now.

Now admittedly, I should have checked my calendar and asked someone to give her a call and rearrange. I'll put my hand up and say that part is my fault.

What I wasn't expecting though, is that this client stayed in the teams lobby for AN ENTIRE HOUR AND A HALF waiting for me. In that time she just...kept sending me emails asking where I was. Now she is absolutely fuming.

This is bizarre right? Like I've been flaked on for work calls before, I reckon I'd give it 15 minutes at an absolute maximum before figuring that something must have come up.

Really depends on the severity, priority, SLA, etc.

But yes, you should have had calendar reminders to let you know ahead of time and sent a quick email / make a quick call to reschedule.

Time is money, and people dont like their time wasted when its on the schedule and they are left in the dark.

" I've been flaked on"

I.e. there have been times that clients have just not turned up to meetings with me, but I didn't stick around for nearly 2 hours wondering if they would turn up to a 30 minute calll...

It was a 30 minute call to go over some routine stuff. We have a call like this about once a month. Not even strictly necessary since I outlined everything in an email, but this is one of those clients that needs to have emails read out to them.

(The calendar reminder went amiss becuase I was driving to the hospital when it happened. )

I'm just slightly perplexed that they stuck around :/

Sounds like you need to pay closer attention to your work email.

Youre entirely in the wrong here. You dont get to blame her for waiting and its weird that you even have that reaction.

I definitely think its weird to sit on an empty teams call for an hour and a half. I can't ever imagine doing that.

Picture it dude. Just sitting there in the lobby on webcam by yourself on a monday. Between 2pm and 3.30pm. Who does that, lmao

But yes, I should have given her a heads up to say I couldn't make it.

Yeah, I'd say it's justified. Well "rage" is a strong word, but fuming annoyance? Yes. Waiting for over an hour is a long time, but I've waited for like 30-40 minutes for people who show up late to meetings. And they do show up late and then act like it's "not a big deal." Honestly starting to piss me off with how much it happens.

She probably left the teams call open while doing other things. Not sure why you're focusing so heavily on that part.

But yeah, I'd be mad too. Having to wait without any update on where you were. I'd calm down after learning you had an emergency though.
