The art is fine. People just like to cry when it's not photo-realism or cel-shading.

And it's on my backlog. I have heard good things from everyone that has played it, fwiw.

Well geez, apparently my reputation precedes me.

It is a Monkey Island game, by Ron Gilbert. It is a humorous send-up of pirates as a pop culture concept and is quite self-referential both as a story and as a video game.

RTMI specifically seems to be made for people who have played Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 (first and second games). The third (Curse of), fourth (Escape From), and fifth (Tales from) games are all silly pirate adventure games, but honestly don't jive in terms of the message the original creator is trying to send. In fact, Ron Gilbert is on record stating that he wouldn't allow another MI game to be made unless he had full creative control. Thus, RTMI.

One critic I trust on adventure games absolutely loved it and it is their favorite game of the genre in recent memory.

Another critic I trust on adventure games felt completely disappointed by the game and the message it was trying to send.

I've completed the game and still don't know what I think of it.

If nothing else, I'd certainly suggest playing the first two games before immersing yourself in this one.
