Well not in the modern sense. They probably didn't have marriage as we recognize it today, in the stone age. But who knows

I'm reading Clan of the Cave Bear though. Was a famous 80s movie. In the book, a Homo Sapien girl survives the death of her clan, and ends up living with a Neanderthal clan. The book never mentions marriage. Just says "that person is her mate" or whatever

Their brains though were focused on memory. Not on problem solving, thinking about the future, or being technologically inventive. That's why they ultimately failed

Do you have a scholarly source for these claims? I wasn't aware we knew much about them at all.

I think we know that their brains were larger but somehow we figured out that all that brainpower was devoted to memory. Like the ability to bury nuts or other preserved foods underground and perfectly remember where it was for later

In Clan of the Cave Bear, they can tap into ancestral memory and know things they never actually experienced themselves. Kinda like in Assassin's Creed. But that part is probably made up

I was thinking in more like "trade agreement between villages" sort of way, not necessarily the full marriage contract.

If nothing else respect the engineering discipline of extracting and sequencing DNA that is 40, 000 to 100,000 yo as well as the advancement in the fields of statistics and retrieval of relics. As well as global collaboration.
