Given the amount of propositions I get offered during an online match to play the skin flute by the opposing side among other such vulgar suggestions, Im gonna have to go out on a limb and say youre being a bit sarcastic with that post, Batman.

To be honest a lot of big and / or long running corporations in Japan are very "old fashioned", which is also the case when it comes to what is accepted and the messages they advocate with their products and services. Atlus is one of those companies and is very focused on catering to heterosexual teen / young adult males, so that's why most of their games have teenage or young adult male protagonists who end up with teenage or young adult female love interests, sometimes even multiple females desire them. They are also so anti homosexual / bisexual male that they literally made fun of gay men in Persona games 3 - 5. They literally made gay / bi curious(Kanji Tatsumi) men appear as predators and made numerous homophobia joke scenes. So unfortunately I doubt Atlus is going to end their sexual preference bias and discrimination soon.

I think a high school life simulator in 2024 having no LGBT options and being homophobic would get enough global backlash for them to think otherwise... I hope...

Yeah, it's not totally out of the realm of possibility. Persona 2 had it (sort of), and it's pretty well-known that Yosuke was intended to be a gay romance option in P4, but that it was cut late into development. The possibility is there, at least.

Persona is a bit more than a "high school life simulator". That is like calling the Pokemon franchise a "walking around tournament simulator" it misses most of what makes the game the game.

Also, I don't think that is an accurate sentiment one bit, and I doubt a decision will be made based on "backlash" when Persona is an extremely popular franchise that will sell well regardless.

Japanese companies are simply led by a conservative mindset and those that hold that mindset either need to evolve in thinking or die off before the Persona games embrace more direct LGBT content.

Once again, that content has always been there. They just arent keen to virtue signal American style and lose their core audience. They arent conservative at all. They just dont care about politics in their games and neither does their fan base. Thats why the franchise is so successful. They just stick to lore and core gameplay.

If you're serious. It's tenuous to say it has 'always been there' when the only concrete example is P2, which is largely not even seen as the same series due to changes in direction and core experience. There's little overlap in fans of p1/2 and 3/4/5. As a mainline fan, I know.

3-5 all have scenes that villainize gay or trans people (remember the P3 beach scene where a trans woman with stubble tries to touch the boys?), while almost never having just a positive depiction of lgbt or really even accepting that it's not crass or other-ing to be lgbt.

It's not 'political' to be lgbt, it's just what some people are. A more conservative, anti-gay culture doesn't have less lgbt people. It simply has less people who feel safe to admit their identity.

I dont know what you're talking about with 'virtue signalling' when it's not like modern Persona has positive lgbt depictions that you just have to dig for. It doesn't at all, while it does have prominent segments denigrating them. Do you see any non-negative acknowledgement of lgbt people as virtue signalling?

We can allow or excuse a scene in isolation. Eg the P4G drag show makes queer people the focus of joking and ridicule, but I guess Teddie passes and the audience speaks positively of him. But across the three games there is an unmistakable pattern of lgbt people being the subject of ridicule and alienation. And there is not a pattern of lgbt people being shown dignity and acceptance, or pride in who they are, despite the conceit of the games being helping others find themselves and examine their lives with Social Links.
