I personally gotta go for Ring. The Ring is a classic and it's amazing it came from such an awful source.

Big Fish, the book is a meandering rather boring affair whereas the movie does a good job of stringing the stories together in a more satisfying way and Ewan McGregor puts a ton of heart into it

The Godfather, IMO.

I don't necessarily agree, but there's absolutely a sound argument for it.

Even David Fincher said the Fight Club movie was better than the book so that should tell you how bad the book is

That's probably the reason why it got an Eisner. The concept is interesting enough, but the art and writing are atrocious.

Came in to say The Godfather. It reads like a cheap dollar store pulp novel, which maybe what it was. I don't mind the constant references of bowels being loosened, because it's realistic at least and shows another way how murder is nasty. Michael has to go to the bathroom before he kills Sollozzo and McClusky, which makes sense due to nerves, even for a veteran like Mike.

The graphic sex scenes, Lucy's big vagina, and the chapters about Johnny Fontaine and his partner Nino were all unnecessary.

I still say it's worth a read because not only do we get the main GF story with a slightly different ending, we get more backstory too and only like half of it was used in GF Part 2. We get more backstory with Vito, how Sonny starts working for the family and how different he is from his father, and the horrible backstory of Luca Brasi and why he has such a reputation.

Also, some of the James Bond movies are better than the books mainly The Spy Who Loved Me, which only has Bond appear halfway through the book.

Even though the LotR movies made changes / omissions from the book that I didn't like, they definitely came the closest to being an adaption that equaled or surpassed the source material in terms of my personal enjoyment.

The question I always ask myself is "would I rather re-read the book or re-watch the movie?" In the case of something like Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim, or ASoIaF / Game of Thrones, I'd rather re-read the book. With LotR, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't pick the movies 9 times out of 10.

The show only really follows the first book, but Dexter was much better than the books, at least for the first four seasons.

Actual good professional writers can do a lot of good...especially when they start deviating from the source material.

Like even not having Luther being a human head attached to a "Martian Ape's" body is such a basic, but good decision lol.

I prefer the Gone Baby Gone movie a bit more than the book, the story just overall flows a lot smoother in the movie, w/ some unnecessary fluff cut out. Also I prefer how the twist ending plays out in the movie a lot more than the book. In the book, when they reach Doyle's house and see Amanda is still alive, Patrick is already having big time second thoughts and wants to stop the process and keep Amanda w/ Morgan Freeman's character. However his hands are tied because they brought the cops with them, so they can't just stop the process now. I prefer the movie where Patrick has more agency in the decision and calls the cops after he sees Amanda is alive, and knowing Angie will leave him if he does.

That's what I assumed as well. That Chuck P. prefers the movie.

I LOVE Fight Club the movie, but I liked the book's ending better, because I love movies and books where the bad guy wins.

I've not seen the whole show, gonna finish the last two books first. From what I've watched and heard it's a very good adaptation and does some good changes to a couple of book characters that originally were kind of flat.

The movie characters have the depth of cardboard cutouts, and that's being generous. Without any reason to really care about them, there's nothing to make it truly scary.

Dude is an alcoholic that broke his son's arm and got fired from his teaching position for assaulting a student. The hotel was very much waiting for him in the book as well. He was an easy target to exploit for the hotel in both the book and the movie.

I prefer the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey over the book, but both are excellent. Kind of different stories though.

The Boys and Umbrella Academy. Somehow the television shows manage to salvage both of these things and make it 10 times better.

Some characters from the books get written off in the show as well, from what I understand. Some googling might spoil that as well, so be careful.

Seeing how the show got cancelled (again) I'm probably going to have to read the books to finish the story..
