He was originally supposed to be one, but they deliberately avoided any implications of it because child molesters were a common topic in the news at the time and they didn't want to be accused of exploiting tragedy.

The remake explicitly makes him a child molester though. His motivation in that film is to track down victims who have suppressed their memories of the assault and remind them of what he did to them. It's pretty awful.

from what I remember, wes craven wanted to explictly make him also a pedophile in the first movie but the producers told him it was a bad idea to market a villain like that so they downgraded it to him to just a kid killer. honestly it was a good idea imo, the 2010 remake tried to make that aspect of the character more concrete and it sucked

when DBD got the license to use freddy they wanted to use nancy thompson as the survivor
but they couldnt get the rights to use her just the remake nancy
they refused to use remake nancy cause OG nancy is leagues better
so it was either original nancy or no nancy
and thats why quinton from the remake is the nightmare on elm street survivor character in dead by daylight

IT explicitly goes after children because it prefers to eat people that are terrified; it "seasons the meat." It could go after adults, but children's fears are just easier. Children will be afraid of vampires or the swamp monster it saw in a movie last week. It'd be difficult to shapeshift into homelessness or your wife cheating on you.

that used both ginny and laurie as examples of final girls but both of them go against the grain
laurie smokes pot early in halloween
and ginny is clearly in a sexual relationship with paul and only abstains from sex because she is on her period which is a joke early on

when he gives a warning to girls that their periods could attract bears so they need to keep clean you then get a scene where ginny tells paul she has something to tell him
then you wake up to her reading a joking note form paul the next day saying to bewarre of bears
