It's not the best we can do right now. Parents should not get to make this choice unless it's a medical emergency. When you say that parents should get to choose, you're saying their choices are more important than the child's choices; you're saying my parent's choices were more important than my choices; you're saying their aesthetic preferences were (and are) more important than my bodily autonomy. You're saying my bodily autonomy doesn't matter enough to be protected. You do not value it.

When it comes to being a kid, I do think the parents choice is better than the kids. Kids make bad decisions all the time. If you let them do what they want, they either grow up entitled doing whatever they want, or they can make a bunch of bad choices that take their lives down a bad path

I guess my thing is that fine, 90% of circumcised guys are fine with no foreskin. 90% of uncircumcised guys are also fine with their foreskin.
But that small minority who wish it were the other way around? The one with foreskin can cut it off, the one without can't grow it back. A parent should make decisions for their child that are best, why insist they don't get a choice?

This entire conversation is about bodily autonomy. You are talking about it all the time, whether you realize it or not. And it is suuuuper fucked-up indeed that you're now interrogating me about my parents' reasons. Like maybe if they had a reason that you deem acceptable, then that somehow overrides my preferences about my own body!

Every uncircumcised adult still has the choice to become circumcised. Whether it's convenient or inconvenient, they have the choice. But once you're circumcised, the choice is gone. The choice was taken from me against my will for no reason other than "my parents wanted to do it," and that's acceptable to you. And that's un-empathetic and fucked-up, like I said at the start.

It seriously is a general trend in the US. So many Americans just do not respect bodily autonomy, and it leads to all sorts of horrible stuff. Circumcision is only one example.

Infant circumcision is wrong. Justifying it because of "hygiene" or "it looks better" is not a good argument. Showers exist. Condoms exist. If the foreskin is peeled back it looks just like a cut penis, but shinier :o

I'm circumcised and I wouldn't ever think about doing that to my kids. I'm big about bodily autonomy and baby circumcision takes that away from them. There's a good reason why America is the only other first world country that actively practices it, because every health circumcision supposedly gives can easily be done just by spraying water at the dick or taking a shower. It makes sense in places like Africa where water and personal hygiene is not easily accessible, but in America that is never a problem. I asked my dad why I was circumcised and he remembered the doctor at the moment telling my dad that I need circumcision because it would make the penis cleaner (even though spraying water at the ding dong is all that's needed to keep it clean). He was never told what they were going to do to my ding dong and it was at the spur of the moment. Maybe that's illegal now, but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar like that happened to other fathers who had no idea what circumcision was (my dad was a Vietnamese refugee).

In fact, this is literally a men's right issue but the most annoying thing about it is that most other men don't find it to be a problem. Just like when men has some of the highest depression rates or other mental health issues and the answer most men get from other men is to "man up" about it and stop "bitching". Nothing ever gets done because we keep getting undermined by the people we're trying to help and bring light to.

Well anyways I'm done ranting about it lol. These conversations never go anywhere.

Ones body is inviolable, and subject to ones will alone. Natal circumcision is indefensible.

I am; from what I was told my parents were advised to do it for health reasons (my parents are not religious in the slightest, so that did not factor into it at all)

That's a slippery slope. Should parents not be allowed to vaccinate their children? The baby doesn't get to choose. It up to the parents to decide what's in the best interest for their child. Circumcision is one of those choices. Complications are extremely low, just like vaccines.
