Third year in a row now that restrictions have been reduced going into fall only to pay for it in the winter

Ohio cases went slightly up, but deaths went down.

The only place I know that still requires a mask is my barber.

I'm not sure where that "New Deaths in the Last Past Week" (which to me sounds like the last full week of data that has passed?) number comes from.

I'm looking at the data itself - follow the link in the tweet, scroll down to "View Historic Case and Death Data", scroll down to the table preview, sort by "new_deaths" for ease of adding things up - it conveniently remains broken up by week.

Adding up those numbers puts the new deaths figures at:
2,566 for the week of 10/13-10/19
2,582 for the week of 10/6-10/12

I know the actual situation re covid is probably a lot worse right now than most realize, but the numbers in the OP's tweet have to be some kind of data entry error, right?

5.5k deaths in just one week is worse than I think we've seen yet, isn't it?

damn, that sucks. i still have another couple weeks until i can get the booster, according to official guidance, since i contracted COVID back in early August, and you're supposed to wait three months.

I'm really not sure where that 5.5k figure is coming from (see my last post), but no, we've seen far worse - probably the majority of weeks from ~April 2020 to ~March 2022 saw that many or more. The US had individual days of 4k+ deaths at the peak.

Shit, you're right. I was confusing the daily death totals with weekly totals. Horrifying

Cases/deaths as a whole are way down thankfully and have been trending as such for a while.

I guess it is to be expected that cases will see a rise as the temperature lowers in North America and people spend more time indoors together.

That seems to be over right now. Went out with a mask yesterday and I was only one outside with one even on public transit.
