It just lacks the intensity of the other classic titles. Only time you're ever in danger is from a handful of bullshit "knock you into a pit" traps.

Like the music is top notch. The graphics are peak aesthetic. But the actual levels just feel so...basic. <_<

I feel like it's a soft reboot video game of the first one so that might explain why it's "basic". I don't agree with that, but I sort of get why you might see it that way. Even so, the atmosphere, music, and being able to whip in any direction still makes it my favorite. That and it was a game me and my dad played together. He was a bigger fan of it at the time and it was more his game. It took me a while to fully get why it's so great.

It pretty much is a reboot of the first game, hence why its a pretty standard platformer.

Like the other two said it's suppose to be an upgraded version of the first game. Not an actual entry in the series.

Still probably my favorite entry next to 3 though.

I literally thought I was the only one that felt that way. Ya you can whip in any direction and it's beautiful to look at and sounds great. It's a rather dull game to play. I suppose thinking of it at as reboot of 1 makes me think of it a little differently and I don't hate it but it just always felt like such a mediocre game to play.

whipping in any direction is cool, but it kinda made a lot of things trivial. it felt like they designed a big chunk of the game and THEN decided "wouldn't it be cool if we could whip in multiple directions?".

Iv was innovative as fuck for its time. The rotating room was amazing. And then bloodlines on genesis had the dual mirror level. Fantastic technology for the time.

That sounds right to me. Whipping in any direction trivializes a lot of the game. Castlevania 3 is so freaking hard I can't believe I got as far as I did legit like two decades ago. I certainly have gotten worse at precision skill based games, but I bet I could sleep walk through most of CVIV today.

I am afraid to try CVIII again hehe
