Zero-Gate?

I do not drink fizzy drinks, but I also do not drink most sugar replacement, as I do not like their tastes and flavours.

It is a direction I have been noticing with many things and it means I am always reading labels to make sure there are no artificial sweeteners in a drink.

Can you tell sugar from sugar replacement just by taste?

I've noticed a lot of sucralose sneaking its way into jam. Which is really fucking annoying and gross.

Ok now I'm confused. Are you suggesting McDonalds is going to begin only offering zero sugar soft drinks?

I feel like they should've reduced sugar volumes over time. Switching from full sugar to no sugar overnight is kind of jarring.

Now that I've gotten used to it, I can't go back. You can immediately feel the sugar stick to your teeth and it's ugh.

Taste testing during food related classes. Most have a distinct taste and texture that you cannot unlearn once you learn it. Some also have horrid after-tastes for me.

Aspartem (I know Im spelling it wrong) has a super metallic flavor for me.

I had not heard about it but it sounds dumb. Maybe it's some marketing ploy to sell more sprite zero outside of McDonald's, but I don't see the point since selling regular sprite is the same thing. If it was a health concern it makes no sense at all

sprite sucks ass anyways everyone knows it's McDonald's Coke that's the illiest crispest

Everything in moderation. And no, "zero sugar" is not the future.

I personally prefer zero-sugar, but I feel they should still serve the sugar version too, at least by special request.

I dont care because I dont live in Australia, nor do I like McDonalds. Plus, on the incredibly rare occasion I do go to McDonalds, Sprite isnt my beverage of choices. So this has absolutely no effect on me. But I think they should have Coke Freestyle machines so that everyone has freedom of choice. Seems like a weird business tactic that will only lose them customers.

imo you dont even need to do a taste test in a class. Its a very strong and notable difference between sugar substitutes and sugar.

While true, it is also easy to ignore it and attribute it to differences between brand recipes.

I will just go into the full anecdote. It was a (not) lemonade (probably strawberry, but I forgot the more generic name in English) testing. Cup 1 was brand x, a brand that sweetens with aspartame. Cup 2 was the same drink, but with additional aspartame added. Cup 3, even more aspartame and so on. Stuff like sucralose and acesulfame-K I just learned about on my own later that I really do not like them.

Steviol is also very distinct, but at the very least it is not that terrible and undrinkable.

I like to mix a whole bunch of different sweeteners. I use a little bit of sugar, plus aspartame, acesulfame, sucralose, stevia, monkfruit, and erythritol. All the various substitutes cancel out each other's artificialiness, and the whole thing is only 10 calories. It would be something like 100 calories for the same sweetness level of sugar.
