Please God give me an explanation for this, I cannot understand what is going on anymore.

I've been overthinking this so much, yesterday I went out to investigate reports of human trafficking tunnels on the outskirts of my city, I trudged through a bunch of tall grass in the middle of the night, a bunch of dead dry dirt with heavy machinery tracks embedded into it, and eventually came up to a field of dead yellow bushes, tall as a Dutch man, I trudged through the grass, coming across deer on the way, about 8-10 of them, scattered all across the land, I came up to a hill, I climbed the hill, it was a large dirt hill and I looked all around me with my bright ass torch to see if I could spot anything out of the ordinary...

All around me while I was atop that hill, I could hear coyotes, or wolves, or something, they multiple packs of them, wailing, howling, screaming and yelping obnoxiously, in unison they cried out but I could not see a single one.

I shone my light at full power all over the place, I had the high ground, I could see all of the geometry for roughly 750 metres, and yet, not one howler, not one, I looked and looked as the howling persisted, but still I could not spot anyone, I saw plenty of deer but deer can't howl.

What kind of animal howls loudly, while simultaneously remaining entirely unseen, how does that happen?
