My cat brought in a mouse tonight and he's running around our house. No idea where he's at now. I plan on going to Home Depot during my lunch break tomorrow to get a humane mouse trap, but I need ideas on what to put inside to lure him in. Would raw bacon work?

One of my friends suggested a glue trap but I'd feel bad doing that.

Peanut butter works really well. There are also purpose-made attractants (as in substances that purely attract the mouse, but don't contain any kind of poison) that work pretty well.

I know it's cliche, but I've had tremendous success with cheese. Years ago my cat brought in a pregnant mouse that snuck in behind the kitchen cupboards and started reproducing. We caught 45 mice in less than a month using cheese.

snap trap or live catch?

peanut butter is really good, but for snap traps flour can also be very effective. i've literally watched a mouse eat pb off a trap and run away, because he could eat it without putting any pressure on the trap. but with flour they basically have to lick it off.

if you're trying for catch and release, though, definitely peanut butter. they love the stuff (as do we all)

Peanut butter or - weirdly - a bit of Mars bar worked best for me.

UPDATE: When I got home earlier I went inside my bathroom and the little dude was chillin next to my shower. I think he was feeling dehydrated. I went inside my bedroom closet and got a medium sized box, closed the bathroom door and was able to capture him. Then I took him outside. I named him Rmi.
