This was my first time having to deal with an insurance claim, so idk what to do. I took a picture of her insurance ID, took pictures of the damage, and filed a claim.

I looked closely and her insurance expired October 1st, so I'm not sure what to expect.

Call the police always unless it's your fault.

Your first mistake was not posting to CE right away.

(She may have forgotten to put her new card in the car. It could be renewed.)

ETA: Also, sorry that happened. It sucks. :-(

She may have current coverage and just hasn't printed the new insurance cards after renewing. I twnd to renew two or three times before printing new ones. All the info is accurate and when looked up by law enforcement it shows as current, despite what the paper in my glove compartment says.

But, even if they don't have insurance yours should take care of you as long as you have coverage for uninsured motorists. I know that my state requires uninsured motorist coverage. Not sure if other states do.

Yep. I was stopped at a busy roundabout, happened to be looking in my rear view at the time I got hit. Dumb lady on her phone who didn't think to look up till the last second.

Ah, alright, so it should be fine. I didn't call the cops because I don't think the damage was that substantial. It just a HUGE ugly scratch on the rear side of my car.

Idk felt like there was more pressing matters than a scratch on my car. If something was literally hanging off then yeah I'd call, but I think we are good.

Though you are right I should have called just to cover my ass.

I got hit from behind by a teenager at a stop light. She came screaming sorry out of her car asking if I was alright and everything. I felt kind of bad since I had my phone out the whole time getting the confession on video in case they lawyer up. Thankfully her parents had great auto insurance and it was a painless experience for both parties. Cause it was during the pandemic, my car was in the auto shop for almost 2 months waiting for parts so I got the drive a rental car the whole time. I have to say though Korean automobiles are made out of paper. It wasn't hit faster than 10 mph and it still destroyed my whole rear section.

There isn't any point in calling the police here in Bakersfield unless there are injuries. They'll just tell you that it's a civil matter and they don't respond unless someone was injured.

The Sheriff and Highway Patrol will respond and create a report for you though. But BPD is trash.
