I think the 3080 will last through the PS6 generation so this is pointless for me.

I might get a 5 or 6000 series card at some point.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Remember how last time they launched the 3090, 3080, and 3070 first? They are doing that again this time. Only they lied about the 4070 and are calling it a 4080. Complete bullshit.

The rumors about a melting 4090Ti are just that. Rumors. 100% unsubstantiated rumors, stemming from a single source known to be wrong on more than one occasion, (That is to say they lie about shit, but people ignore all the lies and focus on the stuff they get right. Like morons do with psychics.) but people are running with that rumor anyway. At least, the lower quality sites are.

Honestly, the 4090 is the most reasonably priced of the lot, at least relative to the previous generation of cards. Adjusting for inflation, this is pretty much what the 3090 cost in 2020.
The 3090 cost $1,885 in 2020? Im not necessarily doubting you since I have no idea what it cost, but thats what it would have been adjusted for inflation.

The 3090 MSRP was $1499, which, adjusted for inflation, would be $1715 today. It's not too far off.

There will, just wait one year for inventory to build up for the Ti version and EVEN MORE expensive Price Tag to match it.

You thought $1699 was expensive, wait till the 4090 Ti comes out!

The whole rumor about 4090 Ti's melting itself is believable if you don't have enough cooling or shove too much amperage and voltage into the GPU. But that's the job of testing the limits of your GPU to see what you can do for mass production. Then you know how far you have to step back on the voltage / amperage to have a long term viable product.

It doesn't really matter if they melt a GPU or two in the labs for testing, that's to be expected.

But know how far you can push things is important and the 4090 Ti probably needs time to dial in the voltage / amperage curves and the correct wattage limits to make sense.

I'm actually legit curious what games would even be worth getting this for. Like is Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Forspoken really going to need that much power?

Prob within 5 years we'll see some demanding games for it at 4k resolution. Look back in mid 2016 to 2017 when the 1080,1080ti, and titan pascal were hitting triple digit frame rates at 1440p in AAA titles. Ofc those king of 1440p cards 5 years ago are only doing around 60 fps now for current AAA titles without lowering presets too much lol.

Also I remember ppl saying they were overkill at the time too.

Honestly not that different from the previous 3090 MSRP-wise. What's truly bonker price-wise, is that new 2022 budget card the GTX 1630.

You can buy that pile of crap right now for $170 (MSRP $200 - Rebate $30)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1630 SC GAMING (2022 Release)
1785MHz Boost Clock
57.1GT/s Texture Fill Rate
4096MB GDDR6 Memory
6000MHz Memory Clock
96GB/s Memory Bandwidth

HOWEVER a better option exists for $160 brand new
EVGA GeForce GTX 1650 SC ULTRA BLACK GAMING
1665MHz Boost Clock
93.24GT/s Texture Fill Rate
4096MB GDDR5 Memory
8000MHz Memory Clock
128GB/s Memory Bandwidth

Just compare those specs and you can see that NVIDIA treats its budget consumer like **beep**
