This is why we need a moral society.

While there is absolutely no excusing what the kid did, I'm definitely not comfortable with condemning an actual child with clear developmental issues for life.

Throwing someone in a cell for life that is not only behind in development but also at an age where development can still occur easily is not the right course of action.

Rehabilitative care in a psychological hospital is the only acceptable action here. Monitor them, help them grow, and if they're capable of living a normal life without elevated risk of harming anyone again like this then aid them in entering society again.

I never had much faith in how well psychiatry will work on some people.

I know a woman who's been going to a shrink regularly most of her life. And she's still crazy. Pulled a knife on my dad in the middle of the night for no apparent reason a few years ago. I'm surprised he didn't have her locked up.

This can't happen. It's not possible. Any type of life this criminal will live will be some variation of being thrown in a cell for life. Whether it's prison, a state-run facility, or a group home. I mentioned this before but even if this evil creature were able to receive the best care in the world on a daily basis, the rest of the world will (rightfully so) demonize and ostracize the evil creature for what it did.

Any attempts at trying to rehabilitate this violent offender will be simply a waste of money, time and resources. Given his mental condition he had no chance to begin with, but now that he's done something irreparably barbaric, he REALLY has no chance, now.

I doubt it. "I had to do it because of (x)" / "(x) made me do it" or something similar is extremely common among mentally ill people with reality issues

It's been a few years ago. Apparently they're in hiding and no one knows who they are at this point. They were always assholes before the murder.
