Playing at home, alone, in the dark, with studio-quality headphones and a monitor about 2 feet from my face. I find the headphones are what makes the game 10x more chilling. The sounds in this game are important.

I've got the acid, so I can get through what's on the other side of that door now. I've never got much further in the game than this. I quit playing last October, because I was worried a jump scare would cause me to scream out loud and wake up my neighbors at 4 a.m.. But I've done more research about the game now, and apparently there aren't many jump scares. Just a lot of dread, suspense, and anxiety. I hope I'll love it.

Spotted a monster for the 2nd time. Both have seemed to be scripted encounters, to let me catch a glimpse of them, but not have a real encounter just yet. This feels like a stealth game. I'm good at those -- or at least enjoy them. Maybe I'll like this game, then.

Should I turn hints on? Like, do they tell me where to go or what to do? That's why I turned them off. But if they just tell me how sanity works and whatnot, then I'll turn them back on.

I remember a Youtuber summing the game up pretty well: "Just preparing to play this game is a psychological event."

The monsters are pretty goofy looking though.

Too spooky :( I tried to play some RE7 but I was getting too stressed out.

I have made my way down the elevator. Haven't felt very spooked at all yet. I have been startled a couple times by scripted events. That's all.

yeah i cant do it, sanity effects also make me dizzy, although i have not tried to turn them off.

It may also be a case of Seinfeld is Unfunny. Amnesia pioneered so many tropes that have now become commonplace and improved in horror games, maybe it's not that big a deal if you go back to it.

Idk. I've never really played horror games before. My reactions to all the "scary" stuff so far have mostly been "hm, that's neat-o." Horror movies don't scare me, either. Maybe it's just me.

Play Visage next

Just replayed it for the first time in forever. I was pretty surprised with how well it held up. I also liked the story a lot more this time through than my first playthrough. Going through the whole series. Just started Rebirth tonight.

Idk what to say other than I just found it reminiscent of part of Half-Life 1, where the water would electrocute you if you fell in. As an obstacle course, Half-Life did it better.

It sounds like you might be a bit too technical-minded to get the full horror game experience, at least in this case. You're aware of how the mechanics work, so it doesn't scare you.

I had the same issue with Mr. X in REmake2. So many people are absolutely terrified of him, but he was just a pain in my ass because I realized he walks slower than you can run which means he just isn't a threat.

The story just gets better and better the father you get into it.

Possibly. I remember when I was watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I actually felt empathy for Leatherface, because I was thinking "I bet this guy is confused as fuck about why people are just walking into his house."

Although the scene where Grandpa comes to life did disturb me somewhat. That's about as freaked out as I've been watching horror movies as an adult.
