I swear, I tried to attack the vikings that were pillaging me and it wouldn't let me.

This game is so much fun though. There's a lot to do. I remember completing it twice and the first time I was able to create a religion based around my best friend and then sorta make it low key worship of demons <_<

Whenever thanks be of your kids is born make sure to give them an education tree. Cant remember what its actually call

I also spent a lot of time having to secretly kill several people in my own kingdom because they had a claim to the throne.

At the same time, the Catholics were trying to come and attack me so I was dealing with that shit at the same time. Best game ever and so fucking panic inducing.

How much better is Crusader Kings 3 than CK2? CK2 was okay but I felt like I was just selecting "yes" or "no" a lot of the time.

I never played CK2 but you're basically going around on the map to befriend, kill, or whatever. It was a pretty big hands on experience for me.

I'm doing the tutorial and it all seems so overwhelming. I'm sure once I get into it things will make sense.

You aren't the only one. I didn't know what hte fuck I was doing even with the tutorial. There was a lot of trial and error and I even started over without the tutorial because I had felt I learned enough.

In the tutorial, my son's wife had a child with another man.

I forced them to get divorced and then he got to marry someone else. I COULD have tried to arrest her but apparently there was a low chance of that being successful? LOL

It takes a while to get the hang of these things, and to learn what you need to pay attention to and what you can safely toss on the backburner. My suggestion is just to take it slow, accept that you're probably going to eat shit at first, and just learn to enjoy the hilarious ways things can go terribly, horribly wrong.

I haven't played CK3 specifically though. Just CK2. And virtually everything else Paradox going back to Europa Universalis 3. All the mainline series are their own things: CK's the only one that really emphasizes individual people and relationships.

So OK, some mayor of a city in a county I took over is expecting a spot on the council. The dude sucks out loud statistically and he has absolutely nothing going on.

Am I supposed to just off him? He is considered a powerful vassal for some reason... seems like an odd loose end.

I play it differently. I'll befriend him and get him liking me a whole lot and then he isn't as angry about not being on the council. I would assume he will join plots against because he wants to be on the council, just maybe not as bad.

TC my very first one was CK3. I watched a few videos because I had never played an in-depth strategy game like this before. But I really really enjoyed it.

You can befriend him and do some other nice things so that he's not so angry anymore. I put who I want on the council unless its someone who I REALLY need to worry about. I try to keep my council with the best until...a war goes on and suddenly my council is empty except for children or the low quality bitches.

Yeah, you could use the Sway interaction on the guy, over time you'll get events and decisions to raise his opinion of you. I don't remember how to do it in 3 though, I've played 2 more recently and the interfaces are pretty different.

That's how I played. I tried every different type of king and all depending on what their best stats were. This game really fucked with me though. I can't watch House of the Dragon without thinking of this game lol... Every time Viserys did something, I went on a rant.

I am going to probably start playing this game on my day off soon. I didn't realize you could choose a king that wasn't part of the choices that they gave you. If I knew that, I'd try something somewhere in the East.

The story of my now ex daughter-in-law continues to be fascinating.

She marries my son, I turn her into a court jester (she didn't like that, apparently), she has a child with another man so I force their divorce. I then arrest her and Keep her in jail for a couple years just to let her go IF she takes the vows.

So now she is a nun. She apparently is incestuous so good I made her a nun. Lol

... my son was murdered. I was trying to help him learn some lessons about the common man and the outcome was his murder!

I do have another, younger son so... yeah. But still, fucking hell

Honestly for your first game just roll with it and see what happens. That's half the fun of CK anyway, and you'll learn some of the mechanics along the way, too.

Yeah, I accidentally clicked on the wrong thing earlier and boom, I ended up going onto a screen asking me to choose a character. I wasn't aware of this...so now it gets...INTERESTING.(it was already pretty interesting)

The dude who banged my wife (who is technically my Vasal) went to war with another Vasal of mine. I told him to stop, he said no... so I tried to arrest him and he said no.

I easily dispatched him and then while he was in jail I beheaded him.

How about you don't fuck with my generosity you jerk?!

I am now the High King of Ireland now, BTW! YAY!

Crusader Kings 2 has a mod for A Game of Thrones with bookmarks everywhere from Aegon's Conquest to A Feast for Crows.

Unfortunately no release for CK3 and I doubt they'll come out with it anytime soon.

There's a LOTR mod isn't there? It's not GoT but I remember messing around with LOTR a bit and it was fun. They were still working on it though.

There is but it's pretty incomplete still. No Elves, Dwarves are still being worked on, no Hobbits, the Ring isn't in yet, and so on

But I have CK3 on PS5 and I'm waiting on it to go on sale on steam to add it to my steam deck but I don't really know about adding mods on it...I forget, do I add mods from outside sources or I can on steam itself? Its been years.

In CK3's case basically every mod I know of worth using is on Steam's workshop. For CK2, a lot of the big overhaul mods are better off being downloaded from other sources - AGoT in particular is too big for the workshop's size limit (at least for CK2; I think other games have bigger limits) so you have to download some mods like that online.

The base CK2 is free to play, btw, though I don't remember if the AGoT mod requires any DLC.

Not sure how well total conversion mods work on Steam Deck, but if it's possible I guarantee someone has done it and posted a guide.

Until you get the hang of succession laws, having your neat and tidy kingdom + borders explode into unholy gore is something to get used to. If you like "map painting" in grand strategy games, it isn't for the faint of heart.
