bruh, i found my old install disks of the original, not the remaster

EDIT: Which, coincidentally is the last time i paid for a Blizzard product. The only reason i had overwatch and d3 is someone else bought them for me.

supporting them with your time isn't as bad as supporting them with your money, but it is still supporting, and i'm not saying anyone shouldn't be allowed to play anything, just that on principle they should think twice about what they are choosing to spend their time on. like, can you really say you don't feel guilty at all when you play a Blizzard game and you know that men who worked there passed around nude photos of a female employee and harassed her to the point that she committed suicide, and that the higher-ups did absolutely nothing in response, and even protected those involved?

Sorc is generally one of the better "starting from scratch" and least gear-dependent classes. Teleport in D2 is also much, much stronger than in D3 and is a must-have for optimal speeds/farms.

alright i'll look into sorcerer tomorrow

for now i'm just gonna watch a movie and get drunk

Yea sorc is the fastest farming class which you want to start doing early.

I always love Druid and Necromancer. Druid summon build is just my fun build, but they have some fun spells too.

I liked the whirly bird Barbarian.

I always played Necro

So there are 2 really big recent changes.
1) Sunder charms. Now every character can defeat every enemy with one of these. They can break elemental immunity, physical immunity, magic immunity.
2) Terror Zones. Random areas in the game are made terror zones which adjust the level based on your level and can have up to level 99 monsters once you level 94.

Practical meaning is all areas are open for MFing now. Since terror zones are good hunting now, something that can initially kill a wide range of monsters is great. Teleport is actually a bit less important now than before because while some people still do meph, andy, diablo, baal runs, they are a lot less important now.

Necro - summoning, bone, poison are all feasible builds.
Sorc - Cold is now probably best PVM in game with a cold sunder charm. Orb, blizzard, nova are all popular now. Fire and lit are also good when fully equipped, but their sunder charms aren't as effective with those builds.
Paladin - Hammerdin or FOHdin are powerful and cheap if you aren't teleporting.

Those would be my recommendation for someone starting out.

Been playing a sorceress, myself, and was trying to do so blind. Without spoiling anything, Ill just say I was boned at the end of Act 2.

i've only managed to kill Bloodraven in act 1.

next to the waypoint in the cold plains were 3 boss monsters. that was "fun"

the thing is, those guys have already gotten their money and theyre out of the company. The only thing boycotting blizzard does now is hurt the regular employees since the executives will get paid no matter what

From what I've heard they can only dropped in hell, have a drop rate of about 1/3 to 1/2 of Gheed's. There are 6 sunder charms, so getting a sunder charm won't be too bad, but getting a specific one could take a while. Only the boss mobs can drop them in terror zones.

also, right now sunder charms are super cheap. There was a glitch on release that an item find barbarian would get a sunder 50% of the time when doing item find (aka "horking"). Strangely enough, I expect prices to get more expensive down the road, right now there is a glut of sunders.

what are you putting your points into?

You get 3 free respecs, so don't be afraid of putting hard points into energy until you have end game gear. Until you have a merc with an insight weapon, mana is going to be rough. Getting up to 400-600 mana before you get insight isn't the worst thing in the world.

every build guide i find says ignore energy completely so i've been mostly throwing shit into whatever the health stat is

Feel free to ignore the guides your first play through to some degree. They all have min maxing in mind and you won't have the gear to pull it off easily. Using a respec around level 70 once you have some halfway decent gear is what I often do to start ladder.

I'm running a necro right now and corpse explosion is a mana drain, so I've got about 50 hard points into energy. I will respec later once I've got spirits and stuff that give mana.

The sorc is a slow start especially if youre starting fresh. Use a spear for act since your spells wont really do shit for now. When I get home ill send you some links to sorc builds you can reference. Hang in there its a slow start but ive been playing for over 20 years yeahhhh thats right I support blizzard deal with it.

Leveling sorc, I always start fire. You are doing good damage by the time you get your leaf staff, and you can shop a leaf +3 fireball staff in act 2 within 30 minutes normally.

What patch are you running? If its older ill find a new guide because theres been some pretty big changes through the patches.

oh a friend gifted me d2r when i said i was playing the original. so whatever that is.

I doubt anyone at blizzard today worked on the original Diablo 2. It seems like all the original crew left years ago

Keep an eye out for a Tal and Eth rune. Put tal then eth into 2 socket armor and you get a nice starter armor. Another one is Ort+Sol rune in 2 socket helm for a 1 to all skills runeword.
