They just waste your money until something bad happens. In the case of gold and silver it's insurance against a global depression. In 2018 silver was going down and was worth $15 approximately. Today it's worth $20. Compare that to people's stock portfolios and if they had invested in silver instead they'd have made money instead of losing money. Losing a lot of money. It's not really a scam any more so than any other kind of investment like real estate.
