whew, Tennessee got a lucky TD off of the deflection and that score right before halftime is huge because the Vols get the ball first in the second half

finally got a stop on defense and we've cut the lead down to 4

Man that Michigan/Illinois game was one of the coldest I've ever been to. Thank god for Money Moody or else it would have been extremely miserable. Also makes me feel better to see most of the other top teams struggling a bit. If Tennessee and USC both go down, it'd be looking really good for us to make the playoff as long as we keep it close next week.

somehow even on 3rd and 20 their WRs are wide open for easy 1st downs

when we had a chance to win the SEC East in 2016, all we had to do was beat a mediocre South Carolina team and we couldn't

USC saves their chances with that interception with 90 seconds left

USC jumps over LSU to take over at #5, and I expect they'll do the same in the playoff rankings

I mean, Tennessee was already going to get passed over for Alabama for a New Year's Six. I had no doubt of that.

We might still get preference over LSU because Tennessee travels really well.

Im looking forward to this week of hate -as they say - USC is in california, Carolina is the tarheels and THE university in south carolina is Clemson. I cant wait for them to walk into Death Valley coming off arguably the best win in their program's history and then dump cold water on them.

But they'll absolutely get bypassed by Alabama in bowl selections because it's Alabama

But the New Year's six bowls have to take the highest ranked team allowed by their contractual obligations. They can't skip over a higher ranked team for a lower one like other bowls can.

Although Tennessee isn't going to finish above Alabama anyway, barring a surprise Iron Bowl loss.

Looking at things right now, LSU could get the SEC's Sugar Bowl spot, Alabama could get the SEC/Big Ten/Notre Dame Orange Bowl slot, and Tennessee could get the only at-large spot available for the Cotton Bowl. Which means Heupel vs UCF is still possible, even though UCF completely blew it yesterday.

good ole Alabama vs Clemson seems likely for that orange bowl, the media will love that.

honestly the best case scenario for Clemson is for TCU to lose in the Big XII title game because I think a 1-loss Big XII champ might still be able to get in ahead of them

Clemson just needs to win out and have USC drop a game to either Notre Dame or the Pac-12 Championship and they're in. There's nothing more complicated to it than that.

I think there might be a scenario where 1-loss Ohio State or Michigan could get in ahead of them depending on how everything plays out, too.

Ohio State/Michigan loser would need chaos to get in. That chaos would need to include another Clemson loss. There is no path in otherwise, unless the winner of the game just beefs it in the Big Ten championship game for no reason, in which case I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what happens.

I don't know if they would keep a SEC championship loser Georgia over ACC champion Clemson. That's the only thing I could see going wrong for Clemson.

I do think TCU could lose this week and then win the Big 12 championship and still be in over Clemson, yes, so it would need to be TCU losing the Big 12 championship. But that's only if USC wins out.

And it should be needless to say but Alabama does not figure into the picture at all unless everyone else loses. Clemson leapfrogs them if they win out - that is very simple.

Yeah, you'd have to have a bunch of 2-loss teams for Alabama to have any chance at all, which would probably require a Georgia loss to GA Tech (which ain't happening).

but we did have that level of chaos in 2001 where Nebraska lost by 30 points to Colorado in their last game and then everyone else lost and they still made it to the national title game

that Tennessee loss to LSU in the SEC Championship game still hurts, we probably don't beat that Miami team but that was the last truly great Vols team

Yeah, thinking about it again, I actually think TCU needs to win out to stay ahead of Clemson.

So Clemson just needs to win out and get any loss from USC, or any loss from TCU, and they should be in, except for maaaybe the possibility of LSU beating Georgia which could make things stupid. But that's it.

I don't think Clemson gets in over 1-loss defending champion Georgia if it comes down to that, so yeah, that's the worst case scenario for them.

There's also a report that Lane Kiffin plans to resign after the Egg Bowl tonight and take the Auburn job.

Kiffin has mocked that report, but as a Vols fan, that means nothing...!

Lane resigning is true, but he's leaving to become President.

No coach has gotten more job offers and taken more jobs than Lane Kiffin. It's unreal.

I wonder if ISU beating TCU would help get Iowa ranked in the top 25 if they win the west. That's their worse loss atm.
