All inclusive of vacation, sick days, float holidays, or whatever -- anything that doesn't require a "life event" like maternity/paternity, disability, or sabbatical.

I just checked, I've got 154 hours (19 days) plus 8 hours of a floating holiday, so I'm at 20 days.

Been such a busy year so far I haven't had a chance to use much of my PTO so far. I think my cap is 160 so I'm definitely going to use a day next week now that the quarter is basically over.

Almost 40 days. I just need to be below 30 days by the end of the year, which should be achievable between taking the week after Christmas off and selling a couple weeks of PTO.

I get 15 days total (technically 120 hours). Whatever I don't use gets paid out at the end of the year.

I've been at my job 13 years, and this will be the first year I won't get at least 3-5 days paid out because I took 5 days when I had Covid.

I usually take 5 days when I go on my annual family vacation, 5 random days throughout the year for various reasons (kids get sick, random day event, etc.), and then usually have 5 days or so to randomly use.

4 weeks of sick time. (We can carry over unlimited)
3 weeks of vacation, I need to use 2 by the end of the year. I'll probably only use 3 or 4 days of this on mornings I wake up and don't feel like coming in and my work is caught up.

Idk the exact amount but I earn 2.5 days a month, 30 days a year and can take up to at least 29 days with normal approval.

Higher level approval, I can take up to 45 days at a time.

Should be in the 20 some days, but I won't be able to take non-emergency stuff until middle of next year so I'll have well over 30, if not over 40 by then.

I usually try to stay above 30 days at any given time, as I only try to take time off once a year at 29 days a time.

We get an amount based off how long you've been employed, with the office starting at two weeks (80 hours) and a day of vacation, three days of sick time, one day for bereavement for extended family, and three days for immediate family. After certain amounts of years employed, the vacation goes to three weeks, then a maximum of four weeks vacation. I get only two weeks. Not sure, but I think it's three weeks after eight years, then four after 15 years.

Vacation resets every July 1st, so we either use them or lose them.

Currently, I have seven days of PTO and all of my immediate family bereavement.

We get 4 weeks of regular PTO, 6 days of sick time, 1 week of "covid wellness" which is meant to be for things like taking care of your kids or if you get covid but really you can use it for anything because no one asks. Then we get 2 personal floater days, 1 day for our birthday, 2 days for volunteer work.

Our fiscal year ends March 31 and we're only able to roll over up to 40 hours of PTO from Jan-Mar. If you don't use it you lose it (except for CA which requires them to pay you out unused days). So I can't just roll over a million hours year after year.

that seems kinda fucked

your brother died so here take three days off

god damn

it's a different story if you're like 50 and your dad is like 90 and has been in ill health for several months in and out of the hospital, in hospice, etc.. cases where it's more or less expected. that arguably makes more sense.

but less than a week seems pretty not great

I'm salaried and get 3 weeks of vacation a year. However, the last 2 people that were in my position were incompetent.

Despite being "full time" I can accomplish all my work in well under 20 hours a week. Nobody monitors when I'm in the office either. So as long as I get my work done week to week, I just don't show up if I don't feel like it.

That is interesting. Companies usually have caps at least.

Is there anything stopping you from up and saying "peace suckers I'm taking three months off"

Usually if not a cap, there's some kind of threshold where even if you have the PTO, you'd still have to get approvals to take that much time off.

Yeah, our time off policy is a bit crap. When my grandfather died last year, three days was about right to recover from being sad, and we knew he was going downhill gradually. Can't fathom what it will be like if a sibling or parent suddenly died.

One of my uncles died suddenly last month. While we weren't very close, I felt that one day was not enough.

Which begs another question - surely there are plenty of people who were children of divorce. Sure they're adults now, but in cases like that, aunts and uncles were basically mothers and fathers. Would that really only merit one day off?

I hope there's leeway in there. Even if you weren't necessarily close with your uncle, there has to be some give there for different circumstnaces.

To add to that, is one day really enough if said person lives out-of-state? I have family in Arizona, and I live in the St. Louis area, so travel would warrant more than a day. Not sure if there is more leeway given, but from what I can understand, you either use vacation time or the day is unpaid if you need more for bereavement.

We don't have a hard cap for vacation, but we do have a soft cap of 80 days. After you get too far past that, HR is on your ass about getting your PTO back below 80 days. Because if you quit/retire/get fired, they have to pay you your salary equivalent for those vacation days.

My vacation days are only at 282 hours (35 days). It's the sick time and other leave types that push me up to 85 days.

And, I do have to get approval first before I take off. But I know for sure that I can take at least a month off at once without too much fuss. Haven't tested it beyond that though lol.

Wow at some of these responses lol I thought my unused TO was a lot.

Working for a tech consultant. Aside from the 10 paid holidays, I currently have:
13 vacation days
4.5 sick days

We get 6 sick days/yr that expire and I forgot the accumulative rate for vacation but I think it was about 5-7 days/yr, which don't expire.

sounds like an HR problem then

the salary PTO payout thing is normal, but can they really do anything about it other than flood your inbox? if it wasn't in your employment agreement then i dont know how they can stop you from going over (unless they have one of those clauses, "company policy can be changed at the sole discretion of (company) at any time." which would let them update it most likely
