A few things to note...

-For the first time ever, a defending champion will not be returning to defend its title, as Yu-Gi-Oh gets snubbed with only one nomination. Was not expecting that at all, but it pretty much confirms that last tournament's win was a fluke. 28 of last tournament's final 32 shows got in this year's contest.

-A LOT of juicy 5/12 matchups in this bracket. Not sure why it shook out that way, but yeah... have fun predicting those!

-The tournament will begin sometime tomorrow morning, get your predictions in before then!

Basically 15 of my top 15 toons made it in. Very exciting bracket.

Looking forward to the contest, though there are a few very unfortunate round 1 matches for me.

And I figured it'd get trounced so I wanted to help it

And so the French series based on American source material narrowly beats the American series based on French (...speaking Belgian) source material.

I was expecting Arcane to do a LOT better, and this doesn't bode well for its match with Death Note (let alone The Simpsons, which I thought Arcane might actually be able to hold its own against :p)

Yeah I also thought Arcane would win with a score like 20-4, and I can't help but think the underperformance comes from Arcane being kinda weak, possibly even anti-voted, rather than Marsupilami being surprisingly strong.

Oh, it's absolutely Arcane being way weaker than expected. I suspected there was a chance it could flop but I wasn't expecting it to struggle this much against Marsupilami.

I dunno, I watched some of Marsupilami before the match and enjoyed it a great deal. It's not all too special, but hits on that zany Disney Afternoon energy to a tee. Arcane is neat and the presentation is admirable (very Spider-Verse at its highs)-- it's just not for me. Lotsa flash, but I didn't care much for the storytelling and, without that, it falls off hard for me.

Infinity Train is one of the best animated shows in a long time

Kinda like a kids show but really emotionally complex and dark and bordering on horror art times.

I never heard of it until the recent hubbub about it being pulled from HBO Max and the show creator encouraging people to pirate it, lol

I felt this way when I saw Count Duckula there! Which was especially fortunate since I got pulled into that round due to Paranoia Agent in the topic title. I remember watching Count Duckula and loving it as a kid but 30+ years later can't recall really anything other than the theme song, and drinking ketchup instead of blood... I actually have the series in my possession, gotta rewatch it someday.

Another late 80s kids show that holds up well (so long as you skip through the parts where they sing): The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin. That one I did rewatch a few years back and I'm pretty sure the seeds of my future Final Fantasy fandom were sown in that show, lol

You would've loved Dragonball Z's matches against Trigun (in the Sweet 16) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (in the quarterfinals) back in 2002. Still probably the two most controversial matches in tournament history.

Hey I voted for her! Don't lump me in with the rest of them. Family Guy losing to MLP is hilarious, but I can't say I disagree. FG reaches some higher highs from an entertainment standpoint alone, but man it lacks the heart of FiM; that became especially true the longer it went on when compared to the ponies.

Family Guy/MLP was the toughest round 1 match for me so far. Both were really good when they were good and both had some putrid lows too. Fitting it was a one vote match!

Shame, shame on Board 8 for letting Hilda lose so badly to Space Ghost. Shame.
