Since Amazon Alexa has come out the usage of the name Alexa has gone down significantly. Babies arent really being named Alexa anymore. And people named Alexa have also suffered due to Amazon co-opting the name.

I recently saw an ad for a product "Erica" being used as a virtual assistant. And I dont want that name to suffer the same treatment.

Makes me wonder should the practice be banned?

I'm on this train more or less, but if you have a smartphone, it's doing the exact same thing an alexa is doing, just without telling you.

It's pointless to fight it anymore. Smartphone, computer, even TVs these days. Anything with an internet connection and a microphone, you bet your ass it's listening to you.

Why couldnt they just make up a name like Siri or Cortana?

All names are both real and made up.

I heard someone named Walter White the other day while I was supervising an audit of inventory for a company. Wonder how many jokes he hears.

This would be the stupidest ban in history, there are actual issues that need to be focused on.

Real names should be banned online.

while true my mother is blind and it has helped her out in a lot of simple ways like being told the time and weather. Setting alarms and reminders. Theyre definitely a invasion of privacy though and I personally wont use one.

No they shouldnt. People should be able to use them if they want. Your reaction would make sense if a device like Alexa was mandated in every home

This reminds me of when I worked in a call center one time, I had a customer named Peter Parker and his email was something like TheRealSpiderMan@<emaildomain>.com

It results in bullying and stuff so yes it should be banned.
