Just a reminder that being trans is NOT my entire, personality, I'm also a lesbian, and that accounts for at least 33% of my personality!

Yup, it's time for this lame flopic again, where you ask me questions that I may or may not answer. But I probably will! Maybe there'll be pics (nothing that wasn't in selfies already ATM), maybe there will be a melty, probably this will struggle to reach page 3.

A run down of key happenings in my life:

-I have a legal order for a name change, but haven't actually done anything with it yet.

-Me and the girlfriend semi-regularly talk about the future as though we will be together even years from now, and I cannot express how happy that makes me. 2022 has been great to me!

-I'm taking a Masters-level Social Work class about the history of public social welfare policy, and I'm really digging it so far. It's a night class, so there's only about 10 people (including a woman who looks like Courtney Barnett - I pointed this out to her the literal first time I talked to her, because...of course I did. She likes my "shag" and general style sense. I like hers too. It's a girl thing!) and I'm organizing a little study group with, like, half my class (the half that bothered to give me their e-mails).

Because trans people are vastly more likely to understand your experience of being trans. And also a lot of cis people are just transphobic: whether quietly, casually or really, really loudly. Like, I know enbies whose boyfriends basically never wrapped their heads around the fact that they were non-binary. In multi-year relationships!

For the record, my girlfriend is a cis lesbian with experience dating trans women, but even then we had a break over something really ignorant and hurtful she said. But she apologized profusely and put in the effort to educate herself and make amends, so now I feel like our relationship is stronger than it was.

Most women I've encountered have been very supportive (the available evidence suggests TERFS/gender criticals/etc. are a minority, albeit one very well-represented amongst the wealthy and elite press institutions). Cis women do tend to be better about it than cis men.

But I'm not really the person to ask, I swiped right on my current girlfriend's Hinge profile within a month of coming out, before I had much in the way of girl clothes or margari-ta-tas. Most transbians primarily end up dating other transbians and non-binary people though, for various reasons. Reluctance amongst cis lesbians is probably a factor, but then, I've heard many lesbian spaces are accepting of trans men who previously presented as butches. But, again...I'm not really the person to ask.

It's really easy.

"Trans" is short for either "transgender" or "transsexual", which are adjectives.

"Lesbian" is a noun that refers to a woman who is attracted primarily or exclusively to women.

Therefore, a "trans lesbian" is a trans woman who is mostly or exclusively attracted to women.

It's hard to pick an absolute favorite - sorry, I'm bad at these things, but I really liked The Outsiders, To Kill A Mockingbird, and The Great Gatsby (in no particular order).
Honorable mentions go to Maniac McGee and Sadoko and The Thousand Paper Cranes.

I was too slow for to catch it, but I edited in Sadoko and The Thousand Paper Cranes as well. I believe both that and Maniac McGee were 6th-grade for me too. The latter is a real tear-jerker.

Of course, I don't think I read a single book with so much as a gay character, let alone a trans one.

Yes, actually! You see, I kind of sort have known I was trans since I was very little (even though I didn't understand, of course), but society conditions us to believe that is bad the '90s was rich with shitty depictions of trans women and the few trans women I stumbled across in media (basically an article about Calpurnia Adams and then Kim Petras) happened to be straight(or at least straight-presenting), so it offered me a handy rationalization: I like girls, so I'm definitely a dude!

But that couldn't hold up once I started getting to know actual lesbians, because they just made, like...all of the sense! Also I crushed on like three of them even though I didn't have a chance with them at the time. I just vibed with them so well, you know?

I don't have any musical ability whatsoever. I do try voice training on and off, and I've definitely drastically changed my inflection and adjusted my pitch some, but struggle with resonance, which is what actually makes a voice read as male or female "male" and 'female" voices actually have significant overlap in normal pitch and adjusting resonance actually mostly fixes your pitch anyway, so....yeah. Pitch isn't very important.

This is a spicy question and a little invasive, and to answer it I would like to point out the results of a quick Googling, it costs about $25,600, on average, without insurance. Insurance is quite reluctant to cover it, because it's expensive and also because it makes no fiduciary sense for your insurance to actually pay for anything ever, so actually getting them to do so sounds like pulling teeth. Also, just to get it, there are generally requirements insofar needing to live as your gender for at least a year and getting letters from psychologists that certify that A) You're sane and B) You're actually trans and should receive this surgery.

B is especially problematic, because most psychologists don't work with trans people, and have very limited ideas of what being trans means. So, if you're non-binary and want bottom surgery, it behooves you to just lie about your gender expression, because many psychologists will just not write you the letter if you don't present as binary (not a problem in my case). Luckily, when I went looking for letters for laser hair removal, my clinic handed me a list of reputable Psych Ds to talk to.

If you manage to be able to afford it and get your ducks in a row, recovery is slow. However...
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8099405/
The regret rate for these surgeries, according to this particular study from last year, regardless of which direction you're going in, is ~1%. No credible study has found a regret rate higher than the low single digits, to my knowledge.

Lastly, it's typically referred to as "Gender Confirmation Surgery", "Gender Affirmation Surgery", or colloquially as "bottom surgery". That's a really outdated term that you're using.

Anyway, I'm going to bed. Sleep is vital for growth breast and thigh growth, in my case. I would make a delicious roast.

I don't have a question

but I went to a wedding the other night and I learned some cool shit. I already knew my brother was bisexual and I already knew that his SO was non-binary (assigned female at birth, they/them pronouns). I hadn't known the full story behind them prior. I only the basic details. I was glad to know more. A cousin of ours also sitting at our table turned 40 just recently and I'm next >_< so we had a good conversation about age and aging but also, what my brother shared was awesome because I felt more comfortable revealing that regardless of presenting as male, I also identify as non-binary (though for the record, leaning toward male, but I'm still trying to figure everything out as it relates to me) so I did reveal that to a few more people than I had previously (my brother was the only one there I had told before). The whole experience was very cathartic. The entire wedding experience was really positive. I had anxious as fuck leading into it but I don't think I could have enjoyed it more than I did. Another cousin nailed the soundtrack. It was open bar. The weather was fucking gorgeous. I enjoyed every second of it. And conversation contextually just led to a point where I was comfortable revealing things I was not expecting to reveal. My older cousin was supportive. My brother obviously was ahead of me so I knew he would be supportive too, which was the point lol. We all have another cousin who is also non-binary. I didn't get to have a conversation with her/them (I don't know pronouns officially) but there is another family party in a few weeks and I do want to have a chat.

I'll snip this, because it's long, but congratulations! It can take quite some time to figure out what's up with your gender (take it from me) but it's so rewarding to embrace and live your truth, especially when you start coming out to people and they affirm you. It's up to you to figure out what being non-binary means to you. I'm friends with four enbies and each of them is unique.

Anyways, good morning CE. Just going to be chilling at home today, doing my readings for class.
