I've actually read this webtoon from the beginning, and I've been following it every week.

I'll definitely keep an eye out.

the series ends up getting deeper, but early on, it's about the overweight dude getting his mom to let him move to a different school to avoid bullying.

she accepts, and he ends up moving to this really cheap, one room apartment, and whenever he sleeps, he wakes up in the "perfect" body, and when he sleeps in the "perfect" body, he wakes up in his old one.

so he goes to his new school in the "perfect" body.

The series is decent in the beginning 100-200 chapters where it has interesting art and a good moral hook.
Keep in mind, S. Korea has the highest number of plastic surgeries per capita (depending on how it's measured).

At some point the series just becomes every other middle/high school fight series, unfortunately.

I have to admit: I do not get that out of the trailer at all. Definitely more interesting than the trailer makes it out to be.

Watamote started out as great dark/cringe comedy about a socially awkward loner that eventually morphed into a more cheery slice of life comedy about a huge group of friends and acquaintances. A good evolution for the main character, but the author could never make it as interesting as it used to be.

Reminds me of 'The Man With Two Brains' where the nice lady who's just a brain get the body of the evil hot lady and then makes the hot body fat because she's a compulsive eater.

webtoons are just manga with bowl cuts instead of spiky hair

The difference is the plot is Korean. Anime is written by Japanese writers.

It's barely even the same series anymore. It's a different genre, art style, vibe, etc. I don't even know the last time the MC was present in a chapter, let alone relevant. It's like if DBZ really did switch to Gohan MC, but followed him around school.
