What a great game!

Something I'm starting to really dislike about Yakuza 4 is how you get so little time with each character that all the side quests and master training gets crammed into really awkward parts of the story with no regard for pacing, like Akiyama's Hostess Maker and Saejima's Fighter Maker. Do I actually have to do all this shit to unlock the Amon fights or can I just settle for worrying about regular substories this time around? And actually, do hostesses even count as substories in this game?

You do not have to do all that to unlock Amon. It's just the substories.

You will have to visit all hostesses at Jewel and Shine at least once for a few of the substories, but the hostess progression itself is not a substory.

Oh thank fuck, I'm just gonna skip Fighter Maker then lol. Still gonna complete the hostesses at least, just cause it's a good chunk of exp.

Oh man, you'll love Akiyama, he really is the best. Wish I could play the whole game as him tbh, the only bad part about Akiyama is having to go from him straight to Saejima's first chapter. Without exaggeration, that section was way more frustrating than anything Yakuza 3 threw at me.

They're all on PS4, Xbox, and Steam. I would suggest playing Yakuza 0, and then going in chronological order (0, Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, 3, 4 ,5, 6, Like a Dragon). If beat-em-ups really aren't your thing and you like playing turnbased RPGs, you can try Yakuza: Like a Dragon (aka Yakuza 7), since it has a new protagonist and a new genre shift, though I think 0 is still the overall better starting point.

Oh yeah. By far the highest body count of named characters in the series. Don't forget they were trying to feel out the tone with the first game and overcommitted on the tragic grit common to yakuza films.

Only the first two. After that they started getting some decent names for their main themes so they featured those in the opening and credits.

Unfortunately the West weren't getting those themes for a long time. Only starting in Judgment.

Overall Kiwami was alright, but 0 is by and far the better game plus it has way more horny energy >_>. I still hate the regenerating health crap in this game.cBy the time you switch styles, and either build up enough heat or down a tauriner, the enemy already healed like half a gauge.

idk when I'll replay Kiwami 2. I kinda want to do it now lol, but I'm thinking maybe I should cool off a bit so I don't get burned out on Yakuza >_> Either I'll play more 0 and Kiwami to try and do some of the completion list stuff or just play another game in the meantime

That's true. I haven't played Kiwami 2 since launch, but I remember it's only 1 style and the heat moves are a little different.

The game's over but something happened to me that I thought was pretty funny. I was trying to get 500 tags from cee-lo for Haruka's trust, and literally the very first roll the banker does is trip 6's, which completely wiped out all my tags before I even did a single roll in that game >_> What the fuck lol

Welp, I guess this is where we part ways >_> I feel like this is the same point where I gave up on Haruka during my 1st playthrough too lol. I have zero clue what is going on in that game and what the cards mean

In Clubhouse Games on the Switch there's a koi-koi game that gives you assistance and tells you "you should probably take this card".

But yeah, scoring hands in that game seem pretty arbitrary and the only way to really succeed is to learn by failing or having a guide constantly on hand.

The first realization is that the Sake Cup card is a really good card to have, since paired with either the Full Moon or the Sakura Curtain, you can get an easy 5 points to win the hand.
