As we've reported, 16 people detained at protests against mobilisation were given a summons to report for military duty, according to Russian human rights group OVD-Info.

Many Russian commentators have warned that, as of yesterday, people who have taken part in unsanctioned protests risk more than jail and could be sent to the front in Ukraine instead.

President Vladimir Putin ordered part mobilisation yesterday, meaning 300,000 military reservists will be called up.

More than 1,300 people have been arrested for protesting the order, according to OVD-Info.

In a call with reporters spokesman Dmitry Peskov also declined to deny Russian media reports that some anti-mobilisation protesters detained on Wednesday had been given draft papers, saying: "This is not against the law."

Im pretty sure those will be the soldiers that will turn the tide in Russias favor.

I'm not sure the best strategy to win a war would be to force the vehemently anti-war crowd to fight in said war.

Agreed. Putin is a pure military genius for drafting people who don't want to fight. They'll be sure to give it their all and go total conqueror mode and totally won't abandon the fight or surrender.

I always thought the idea of drafting people that don't want to fight in a war to be a little counter-productive. The only real leverage Russia has is that they can threaten families I suppose.

The protesters usually have family and the government could always go after them next. It's basically like a house of cards being knocked down except with human rights violations and war crimes.

Have they reached North Korea levels of manipulation yet?
I'd already heard stories of people walking or staging mutinies but nothing about their families taking the repercussions. The only people conveniently failing to achieve balancing and falling from high places seem to be the companies' higher ups or viable political threats.

Meanwhile, the Russian military is deploying so-called barrier troops in Ukraine to prevent its own units from fleeing, according to Ukrainian military intelligence.

Ukrainian defence officials said that according to intercepted conversations, "panic" and "refusals to fight" are setting in among Russian troops.
