Ever used AirBnB?

https://www.businessinsider.com/travelers-slam-airbnb-chore-lists-mow-lawn-laundry-cleaning-fees-2022-9

Some Airbnb hosts are requiring guests to complete lengthy chore lists on top of paying cleaning fees up to $375, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Frustrated travelers have pushed back on social media, with some saying they've been asked to take out the trash, wash the sheets, and even mow the lawn during their stay.
One TikToker @Melworeit said in a viral video that she decided not to book on Airbnb because it charged a $125 cleaning fee and asked guests to take out the garbage, remove bed linens, run the dishwasher, and do a load of laundry.
The post amassed 66,000 views and nearly 5,000 comments, many of which shared similar encounters with Airbnb chore lists.
"If I'm paying $229 a night to stay somewhere plus a $125 cleaning fee, I'm not doing any laundry," the TikToker said. "I know it's like one load of laundry and it'll take me two minutes to do, but it's the principle that really bothers me."
Another Airbnb guest took to Reddit in July to ask if it was "normal for a host to tell the guest to mow the lawn themselves?"
"Seems like a strange response given the premium being paid for staying here (to me, at least), but if that's standard then I'll roll with it," the user wrote. "I just don't want to be penalized/charged/poorly reviewed for 'neglecting' the lawn if I don't do it."
An Airbnb spokesperson told Insider that while hosts choose their own cleaning fees, the company has provided recommendations for keeping the amount reasonable and suggests hosts consider not charging cleaning fees at all. According to the company, 45% of global Airbnb listings do not charge a cleaning fee, and for those that do, the fee on average is less than 10% of the total reservation cost.
"Would you like guests to load dirty dishes into the dishwasher or strip the bed linen before checkout? If so, consider charging a very minimal cleaning fee or no fee at all," the Airbnb host resource page on cleaning fees says. "With a higher fee, guests may expect to just walk away from your space at checkout as they would a hotel room."
Kimanzi Constable, a full-time digital nomad who has stayed in over 100 Airbnbs, told Insider that some hosts have asked him to complete chores without providing basic cleaning and laundry supplies.
"Airbnb hosts have asked me to do chores such as take out the garbage when checking out, do the dishes, clean up, and other measures to help the host, despite me paying a cleaning fee, which can be high these days. I'm more than happy to contribute if I have the supplies needed," Constable wrote. "Hosts should either provide all the necessary items, or scrap the cleaning fee entirely."

Mf wants me to pay him $375 so I can clean his house? BRB going to jail

I just don't see how AirBnB is okay with these kinds of fees.

I also don't see how it's legal to advertise a place at $100 but then the host tacks on some BS, making the total price twice or more than listed.

Yeah like i said in previous airbnb topics, i hate them unless im booking for multiple families or groups.

"Cleaning" fees are the main reason. I usually like to book based on location so i used the map view to see prices and they list stuff as like 100$ a night and add like 100$ for cleaning fees when youb see the details which i hate. I usually prefer just going to hotels if its just my small family.

The obvious solution would be to not book those places. It's not like they spring all this stuff on you. As the article says, 45% of listings do not even charge a cleaning fee, so book one of those

I dont even know how true this is. Probably counts like the single room places in a house where they live in already that i filter out and i never see.
Never found a place i liked that didn't have a cleaning fee. Wheras all hotels dont have added cleaning fees. Maybe a resort fee but never as much as these cleaning fees.

The point is, you're aware of this stuff when you make the booking and if it's something you don't agree with, you don't book the place

Is that the point?
And in that case, you know there is a cleaning fee, but you never know before booking how much they expect to clean yourself with a huge cleaning fee anyway.

We recently stayed at the Outer Banks and it wasn't too bad. Mostly just ensuring trash cans were at the street, linens were off the beds and vacuuming/sweeping. Took all of thirty minutes the morning we left. We swept the floors regularly anyway because of the sand so it wasn't bad.

It's the point I was making, yes. And I've always been aware of what the cleaning expectations are going in, it's part of the agreement

At the one I stayed out for a Bachelor party, we threw all the used towels into the laundry. The owners didn't live in the city, so it was just a party house. Which is funny because it was in the middle of a random neighborhood with families living next door.

I imagine that'd be more of a "if previous tenants left dirty towels/linen, do a load, if not then whatever"

I can understand them imposing fees if the tenant is really bad and wrecks the place, but this seems excessive. Chores are fine. Chores on top of paying extra fees? They can kiss my ass.

I dont think airBnB cares cause theyre getting a % of the charge.
