Im for real. I see people posting about the wrestlers and whatever.

Ive always just viewed it as acting and mostly fake-fighting. It is all scripted and meant to sell merch and stuff. The fighting look extremely fake for the most part, and the personalities seem fake as well.

The only appeal I can see is either people think it is actually real and the drama is actually happening, or people just like the fakeness and roll with it, like soap operas or Shonen anime escapism.

Can someone give me another perspective?

why does someone have to explain the appeal to you though, youre old enough to watch an episode of two to make that decision for yourself. you will either like it or you wont as im sure you have done with everything in your life up until this point

Ever seen a gymnastics recital? Ever seen a soap opera?

Combine the two, and make it live. It's a stage show that uses the story to drive the "action scenes", where a normal stage show is in the reverse. You're not supposed to believe the combat is real. At no point during Macbeth does the sword fighting look real, nor do you believe it is. You just sit back and enjoy.

I'm not much into it, but I occasionally like to watch the women matches.

It's so fucking absurd that I find it really fucking fascinating. I'm not much into modern stuff but I can go back and watch 80s and 90s and have a good time.

This. When I was a kid every wrestler was unique with a exotic costume and gimmick. Modern wrestler are just "generic strong person "

Hard to say, a bunch of half-naked dudes being on top of each other seems kinda gay, but for some odd reason doesn't appeal to me that much.

I think they should just embrace the gayness of it all

I've seen passions and that shit was wacky... did bold & the beautiful get that out there with witches and ghosts and shit?

It's basically a long running stage play with strong emphasis on the fight scenes.

And in the more modern era where kayfabe has been truly broken for over 20 years, a lot of the interest comes from seeing just how well a wrestler's character is booked. There's a lot that goes into in-ring psychology and making an angle and the matches/promos within it work.

if I recall, there were a couple deaths & resurrections.

Without trying to sound too hyperbolic, it's an art form. Think of dancers or bands or any performing arts. Tons of practicing to make sure for concerts or performances that they give the best show possible.

Now for wrestling, it's all that AND you have to take care of your opponent at the same time. While it is technically "fake fighting", a lot of the damage is real. Not to mention having the stamina and constant awareness to make sure that you don't injure yourself or your opponent. You see matches with a lot of botches and then you compare them to masterpieces like Omega v Okada matches or Daniel Bryan's WrestleMania run and it's night and day.

The promos and acting and stuff is another story and can make and break dudes like MJF, Miz or early career Roman Reigns. But in the end, it's about the wrestling.

There's plenty of gimmicks still out there. AEW seems to have it more in spades now than WWE but they're there.

Yeah that's not really true. Gimmicks don't go as hard as they used to, they simply can't, but look at someone like Danhausen or Orange Cassidy or Luigi Primo, gimmicks are alive and well.

I have no idea who those people are. I'm just remembering that in the 80s every single wrestler had some kind of unique backstory or theme

A billionaire with dollars signs on his clothes is the man guy I keep remembering cause I had an action figure of him

The only theme I know today is that one blonde lady who acts like Harley Quinn

Because it's fun and entertaining with a bit of nostalgia thrown in the mix.

As for it being fake.... I hate to be the one to tell you Santa isn't real, but... you know tv shows and movies are fake too, right?

Either you like it or you don't. We can't force someone to enjoy something that they don't like.

If you're going to troll, you should do better at hiding it.

its a form of fiction. generally, people partake in fiction for different reasons. some people like watching characters preform. other people like watching exciting action. yet others are engrossed in behind the scenes drama because they are interested in how the fiction is made

i dont think its a very complicated concept (in fact im pretty sure you're just fucking around and stirring the pot). people like stories and people like watching performances. neither of them has being real as any sort of requirement
