jackfruit tastes like less sweet, slightly umami-tasting cantaloupe

It's got a meaty texture but it doesn't taste anything at all like meat.

No and half the time it's either got the texture of a cantaloupe or it's got the texture of styrofoam

It's an exaggeration but it is good. My ex was vegan and I had some jackfruit concoctions.

You can definitely dress jackfruit to taste like meat.

I think it's more about the texture than the taste.

I've had bbq pork beans made from jackfruit that were absolutely amazing.

Never tasted even a little bit like meat to me. Portabella never did either. I recognize some compound in them that's similar to meat, but that's just one part of dozens.

Portobello mushrooms never could substitute a burger IMO they're way too watery. Sun dried tomatoes are unironically a great meat substitute. They're full of fat and have a dense meaty texture. They still don't taste like meat but they're better at it than mushrooms.

If you go vegan just have a fucking spine and forget about tasting the savory taste of meat. The point is not to eat it, so they should stop trying to replicate it. My ex didn't try any of that cope shit.

This doesn't make sense. You can still make cookies without sugar, and they'll still taste like cookies. It's just most options are bad.

Tofu is delicious when it's not trying to be meat. It can be as good as meat, but not AS meat.

Tofu has a texture that's a bit close to meat if it's firm. Taste though it isn't the same. Tofu gains flavor from whatever it's cooked in. Tofu and chicken cooked in teriyaki sauce taste the same: like teriyaki sauce.

I prefer tofu to taste like tofu. Fried tofu is delicious all on its own. No need to fuck up a good thing.

Chicken itself doesn't really have a lot of flavor to absorb so probably not unless the chicken is marinated. Try eating boiled chicken and see what it tastes like.
