Academic bowl, scholastic bowl, trivia team, whatever it was called did tour school have one and we're you on it? And if so we're you good? Any interesting stories?

Yup.
I think it might have been 91 and 92.

I was the "obscure shit" go-to.

Yes. Probably really midling when it came down but I apparently had the fingers to win for questions everyone knew the answer to and that pulled us a few necessary points here and there.

Cool I played my high school years from 92-95. Was on the varsity team as a sophomore. Easily my favorite part of school.

I wasn't really the "academic" type person in school.

I was more the "skip class to get stoned or go skateboarding" type person.

Some of the teams we played were made up entirely of those types.

Less "sleep" and more just "not do the work if it didn't engage me" but I still had my HS History teacher be like "How did you ace the mock exam?" when I turned in near nothing for assignments.

I was captain my senior year. We weren't that good, but better than our rival school usually.

i was talking to someone who is on the debate "team" at his highschool in texas. he said that "spreading", aka "speed reading", was a popular tactic used to win debate competitions.

I kept trying to tell him that that skill will get you nowhere in the real world. He kept digging in, saying it is the only way to win the competitions, because scoring is basically # of arguments per minute. If you essentially just spam, you can win because your opponent can't reply to them all.

So i said, what the hell is the point? Apparently these things are huge for college applications too. the system is fucked

I see some posts in here that said they were on teams in the 90's, so I guess it was a thing back in the day, but never knew it existed.

You can look up matches on YouTube. I watched a few of my old high school team from last year. They have team jackets now, something we didn't have when I played.
