Visage is the best modern horror game, hands down.

Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water recently got a modern port. Also a classic.

Dreadout 2 is a lesser known Indonesian horror title.

If you have friends, Phasmophobia is a top tier ghost hunting game.

Evil Tonight is a great take on 2D horror. Its a pixel Resdent Evil.

Lone Survivor Directors Cut is like a pixel Silent Hill if you prefer that.

If you're into demakes, there is Alice, Murderhouse, Back in 1995

For true retro there is all the old RE games (REmake is the most "scary" of the lot)

Corpse Party and its many spin offs and sequels

Yomowari Night Alone

And of course Tattletail

Until Dawn/The Quarry (haven't played the latter but it's the same studio and is supposed to be the spiritual sequel)

If you want something a bit more light hearted, the Costume Quest games are halloween themed but light hearted turn based RPGs.

Corpse Party if you are fine with no English dub and can stomach fucked up shit happening to characters of many different ages (yes that includes a good chunk of underage characters). Best played with a good pair of headphones as the 3D audio is top notch. Also some of the deaths get described in excruciating detail so....yeah it's really good at unsettling and disturbing the player. My only gripe is the game is VERY particular and often times vague about how to go about getting the true ending of each chapter. Highly recommend. Book of Shadows is also worth playing though the gameplay is more akin to a point and click adventure compared to the original. Stay away from Blood Drive though, game is a garbage heap and a blemish on the series.

Alien Isolation is also a good spooptober game.

There's also the Silent Hill games.....well at least the first 3 anyway. The rest of the games range from okay at best to awful.

Carrion was real neat too, also Little Nightmares was great.

The Suffering was really good, it was on PS 2 though..

Until Dawn was awesome. I played the hell out of that. More of a visual 'choose your own adventure plus quicktime' but it was fun.

Night in the Woods is a very October sort of game. I don't want to spoil anything, but you should play Night in the Woods.

Subnautica, if you haven't already played that. It's not a horror game, but most players find it terrifying on their first playthrough. It became so well known for it, that the developers went out of their way to make the sequel less scary lol.

Very nice. I already played a few of these and actually own and plan on playing Phasmophobia. I knew about 95 and Murderhouse (frigging Power Drill Massacre scared the shit out of me), but Alice is new to me and looks promising. How the hell did I never see anything about Tattletail though? Adding that to my wishlist for sure.

Yeah loved Until Dawn. Looking forward to the Quarry, but probably won't get to play it until next October. I usually play one of the Dark Pictures Anthology games each year and this year I'm doing House of Ashes which I'm looking forward to.

Outlast
Alan Wake

Yeah played all the Outlast games and Alan Wake games. Actually liked American Nightmare more than most it seems. Outlast 2 was the most infuriating platinum trophy I ever got. 2 in general was really flawed, but I think Outlast 1 is up there with some of my favorite horror games in recent years. It does a lot right and Whistleblower is pretty great too.

I still need to play Control and the Alan Wake DLC.

I've seen people play Corpse Party and just doesn't look like it's for me.

Alien Isolation was apart of my 2020 marathon. Great game.

I already adore Silent Hill. 1-3 are some of the best ever. Hated 4's wasted potential. Actually liked Origins despite it being...well stupid. Homecoming was a mess. Downpour was bad, but I enjoyed parts of it. Shattered Memories was a pretty damn good time.

I'm currently playing Dead Space 2 and it's pretty good. It's a 3rd person sci-fi shooter but it definitely has a horror theme to it as well.

Yeah enjoyed Carrion when it came out. Little Nightmares was apart of my marathon a few years back and I really liked it. Still need to get 2 at some point. Good picks.

The Suffering is one of those games that I always saw, always looked interesting, know a decent amount about, but just never got to play it. Thanks. Maybe I'll get around to finally playing it on PC. Though I do have a PS2 still. Bought an HDMI converter so I could replay Silent Hill 2 on it last year.

That's interesting. I always saw Subnautica on sale and stuff, but never looked too closely at it. I think disliking Abzu put me off which I know is a totally different game? But good to know. It sounds like a good game for the front end of the month.

I played 1,2,3 back to back on Xbox360 one week.
Fantastic series, even if 3 is the weakest.

Observation is a great sci-fi thriller from Devolver Digital. Certainly one of my favorite outer space games.

I was serious with Space Funeral. Game is short but quite creepy.

I haven't played the 3rd one but Dead Space 2 is just more of the same as the first. There's very little change. But that's a good thing in my eyes.

I played this and Observer back to back and constantly got the titles confused. I really liked parts of Observation, but the story didn't come together the way I was hoping. The feeling of outer space was done well though. Played quite a few space games actually. Recently played Deliver us the Moon and enjoyed it quite a bit. Tacoma was a good walking sim set in space. Alien: Isolation of course.

I actually recommend Observation to anyone here looking at suggestions. It's included in PS+ Extra.

Ha. Parasite Eve is on my list for this year too. I was gonna play it last year, but it potentially being 12+ hours made me cut it. Don't like to rush through games anyway.

Never heard Shadow Tower. That shit looks like a good PS1 game to write down for later.

Played all of 'em but Metro. Arkham Knight's got one of the biggest fucking jump scares ever for me. BioShock Infinite too actually.

Oh yeah, it's nothing like Abzu. Subnautica is a survival game where you crash land on an alien planet. So it has resource gathering, upgrading gear, building bases, etc. It just so happens to be a planet that's mostly water.

Pretty meaty line up I think. Wish there were more quality PSVR horror games. Most of them have mixed to poor reviews. Still holding off on RE7 until I get there after all the other RE games. Will probably be ready for it come 2023.

I'm also looking forward to Burnhouse Lane when that comes out. Really enjoyed the Devil Came Through Here trilogy, especially the Cat Lady.

I just played IMMORTALITY which I kinda wish I waited until October cause it would have fit in perfectly. Didn't even know it was sort of horror-ish. Was just pumped for a new game by the guy that made Her Story and Telling Lies.

Nice. I'll add it to my list. I've dipped a toe into the world of RPG Maker horror games. I did like the Witch's House.

I played one a while ago called Ravenous Devils, it's a side view cooking and management game, you attract people, kill them, cook them and serve them. It was surprisingly solid for that kind of game, and it goes on sale cheap often.

Have you tried Dusk? It's a Doom/Quake/Heretic inspired FPS Indie. Apparently it's a f****** amazing. Only available on Steam and Switch right now.

Have you played a lot of PS2 horror games? Have you tried Manhunt? It's probably one of my favorite hide and seek games of all time... Right up there with Alien Isolation.

I just finished The Quarry minutes ago. I enjoyed it; its not much of a game, but I enjoyed the acting. Some of the facial mocap looks weird at times but you get used to it. It took about 10 hours, so really easy to finish over a weekend if you have nothing else to do.
