Back in 2013-2014, I was playing catch up with the series, actually got up all the way to Freedom's Cry
But then they announced that they are releasing two games on the same year (Rogue and Unity) and I said fuck this, I am done

This year I decided to return to the series and I am currently doing a marathon of all the games (started Syndicate today) and...yeah this shit makes me feel like quitting again
It's bad enough that I heard about the Odyssey/Valahalla bloat and being 200 hours games and now they decided to announce 4 different games that will be releasing...pretty much I assume in less than a year apart?

I am tired

This is not what Altair fought for!

Honestly this seems like the smart thing to do for the franchise.

I also fell away the Unity/Rogue year. One a year was already pushing it, then they did 2!

Since then I have eventually played all the main games thru Origins, which was just a month or so ago. I will very likely play Odyssey and Valhalla at some point.

With that said, hopefully these are more bite sized experiences and not all 40+ hour games.

Also...

Did they just really end the sale they had on Ubisoft Connect for one day? (PC)
I mean, the presentation had like 3 different hype videoes for the series, this would be the absolute best time to keep a sale going
What the fuck were they thinking?

On XboX and PS the sale will go for 5 more days which makes perfect sense, but why the fuck stop the sale on PC after one day?
What kind of shitty 15 years celebration sale is this?

I am kinda salty because I was about to purchase Valahla. Oh well it's not like I will get to it in my marathon before the Winter Sale anyway...

Looks like Jade's a mobile game and N's a Netflix series, while Infinity is multiplayer that connects to all the games...?

So 3 full single player games, a mobile game of nebulous specifics, a show, and an independent multi-player suite

Well...mobile games improved a lot. Genshin is also a mobile game!
I can totally see it being similar in size to Liberation and I feel like Liberation size and length was perfect

And hey, At least the Japan game isn't mobile!

They're calling AC Jade an "AAA mobile game." Sounds to me they're trying to go the Genshin Impact route with it. Comparable for the open world plus obvious catering to the Chinese mobile game market. If they do it right (not a given lol) I'd expect it to get ported to PC as well.

The most interesting one of these is the teaser for HEXE which I hope is just "Assassin's Creed but you're also a witch." Really weird to announce so far in advance with barely any info though, there's just nothing to get excited for really.

I think regardless of what you think about Genshin's quality, it's definitely indicitive of a huge shift of what a "mobile game" is that's been largely ignored outside of China and Japan

Black Flag and Unity broke AC for me. I skipped all the RPG ones except for like 5 hours of Odyssey where I learned they made it so assassinations don't even OHKO anymore.

Mirage could be return to form though. I'd love if they go an even more linear-ish route like God of War.

Genshin is actually really good. The gatcha stuff is pretty soft if you just use what you get randomly (but if you want something specific, you have to spend a ton of time/money, which is fair). But more importantly the exploration and quest loop is pretty much exactly what AC was going towards in its RPG games. That model makes total sense.

Yeah Kassandra, the Syndicate girl, and I think the Origins deutaragonist were all well received.

Technically they're two different characters in Odyssey. Valhalla is a lot weirder since you're technically Odin.

This is correct, when people blast AC for this it's not because of the audience reaction or whatever, it's because the executives don't want a female protagonist and the developers are doing things like having to include options and go "well technically the woman is canon" and shit like that. We've got it on record. That's just how the game is getting made.
