Man in the High Castle is an Amazon Prime show about a timeline where America lost ww2 and is carved in half and ruled by Japn on west coast and Nazis on east

I wonder if people would be offended at that concept if used for the Civil War. Set in 21st century, where the Confederacy is still an independent nation.

There was a mockumentary about this once

Harry Turtledove's Southern Victory series is pretty damn good. I'd be cool with a show based on that.

The ironic thing is that from the little info we got about the HBO show, it would have focused on slaves and abolitionists as the main characters. The story was definitely going to side with the anti slavery cause and the Confederate government would have been portrayed as villains.

Have you read In The Presence of Mine Enemies?

He wrote it and it's set in 2010 in Berlin in a world where Germany won ww2. It is about a family of Jewish people hiding out in the open. The dad works for the government

The entire world believes all Jews were killed decades ago. A secret community of them has their own underground community and they protect each other's secret

Alt history can be a useful vehicle for exploring and examining real, contemporary beliefs, ideologies, and issues.
But no, our society is, by and large, not willing to critically examine the Confederacy and the failures of Reconstruction. I do believe it's accurate to assume a victorious Confederacy would have maintained slavery as an institution long past the point where it ceased to have any economic utility: it had become a major emblem of status, after all: a mark of nobility.

I think you could get away with it, provided it was centered on black people. Maybe make it about a slave revolt that happens in the decades following the war, or set it in the present day but make a slave revolt that overthrew the government part of the new timelines history?
