Well, sure. In any fighting game there's going to be a huge chunk of the player base that just wants to win and will try to do so by picking whatever the "meta" character is. I only wish people admitted that they pick top tiers for easy wins/to get carried. Its fine to play them, but dont say it was all you and not the character. --- I want you to grab your nuts. I remember getting really into Tekken 3, and back then the FOM was Eddy by far. And why not? Spam kick buttons while randomly moving the control stick and you win most of the time.
