Every class/hero shooter to come out since is less fun.

The absolute worst change has been the e-sports team focus to bring team size down from 12v12 to 6v6. Even TF2 devs were guilty of chasing this idea with the Gun Mettle update and making no-fun-allowed balancing changes focused on that.

I've often said, if they'd bring TF2 to consoles (again), I'd drop all the other shooters I've been playing in recent memory. Well, I dropped Overwatch a few years ago, but I'd still play TF2, even if it was vanilla. Some of the best multiplayer times I've ever had.

Ah it's nice to relate. Everyone's on about the bots and they really are the big thing and a blot on Valve's reputation, but man even before that a lot of the updates were really sucking the fun out of it.

I'm convinced they listen to the "Wahh random crits, this game should be a serious joyless competitive game where each weapon loses its individuality and only offers a slight statistical difference" crowd. They're probably much easier to listen to than the F2Ps who can't talk because Valve added a hip new pay to talk feature.

Look what they did to Pyro. Absolutely mutilated. Would be unplayable if the option to pick Scorch Shot and Phlog then give the contemporary playerbase what it deserves wasn't there.

I didn't mind Tribes going class-based with Ascend, then the devs relented and made the loadouts more like classic Tribes, then it died. Oh why did it have to die?

Was definitely a fun game for a good few years but once they added MTX they just kept putting garbage in the game just to have more stuff to sell.

Seems improbable any dev will make such a polished game without MTX anymore so just another experience that can't be recreated in the modern day.

It can be improved by bringing back all of the fun mechanics they gutted from TFC

TF2 on 360 was fucking HILARIOUS after the last update. For some reason they decided to add server options in, so hosts would allow friendly fire and crits only and the like. Nothing more fun than an entire team being shut down by a friendly demoman spamming crit stickybombs in the spawn room and instagibbing his own teammates before they could even move lmao

As if that wasn't bad enough, Valve somehow inadvertently enabled console commands, so you'd have people turning noclip on and capping the intelligence 3x within like 20 seconds, using the "kill" command on other players, etc. etc.

Good times (not really).

Ay, fellow Tribes bro. I miss it too, man. Shazbot
I got into a match with a decent number of players a couple months ago, so it's still possible to play it I think, at least occasionally.

I wish they'd release the source code or whatever so fans could revive it if they're so inclined. It's not even listed on steam anymore

I definitely remember some custom games that got crazy, yeah. There was even one where some dude put extra platforms in the Teufort bridge area. Not sure how they did that on console back then, but it added a little extra flavor. I also remember having fun when idiots would cap the classes, and you'd spend extra time in the menu waiting for the party leader (?) to change classes -- presumably so s/he could play them. For instance, I was known as a good sniper, so people didn't want me to play as that. I'd sit in the menu and button-mash on sniper on the off chance someone would change the limit (i.e. the other team allowing themselves to have snipers, quickly and quietly) and it was a lot of fun when it'd work out.

I forgot how many hard fans of TFC were on CE. I'm not knocking it, frankly it was before my time. But you still surely gotta recognize the marvel of the uniting of TF2's stunning visual identity with its gameplay and sound design.
