Assume the following

1. The person being sentenced committed many horrible things. Rape, murder, you name it.

2. This person is 100% unrepentant.

3. The evidence undeniably proves this person is guilty.
3a. We have magic that, with 100% accuracy, proves this person is guilty.
3b. Jesus comes down from the heavens and confirms that this person is guilty(Also, if we could stop being jerks to each other, that'd be great).

4. It costs exactly the same amount of money to execute this person as it would to jail them forever. Again, magic.

5. Any other factor you can think of that would suddenly cause one option to be more or less favorable is evened out in some way.

Now of course in the real world things aren't so simple.

But in this magical hypothetical world, do you see a significant difference between life in prison and the death penalty?

This "gotcha" will always be dumb when pro death penalty people use it.

You will never get this 100% certainty. Never.

You will ALWAYS be killing innocent people. Accept it and accept you are either okay with yourself and loved ones dying for crimes they didn't commit or stop supporting the state killing its own citizens.

Yes. Which is why I said in a magical, hypothetical world. The lack of 100% certainty is a valid reason to be against it in reality.

People forget a life sentence is what you usually get for taking a life. It doesnt mean you stay in for your entire life.

Yes because it's to cruel to put someone to death for committing a horrific crime, instead you think we should just torture them for life by keeping them in solitary.

it's more comparable to the death penalty in terms of control over the criminal and base domination. i'm not saying we should put people in solitary instead of killing them, both are bad.
