Any idea what might have caused this and how to fix it?

I'm assuming Windows. I'm personally in Windows 10, so your exact steps may differ. If you go to Settings --> About --> Advanced system settings --> on the Advanced tab under Performance and click Settings..., there should be a tab called Visual Effects. You can either adjust for best appearance, performance, or customize which effects to use. I'm thinking "Smooth edges of screen fonts" might be the relevant setting.

It's just stress from the death of the Queen. Relax your eyes, drink something heavy

Probly. My other suggestion would be to put your glasses back on. That might be the problem. Y'never know.
