Yeah on top of not being effective, an iron tail from a light ball Pikachu with like heavy lvl advantage and nature advantage still like 3HKO a Mega Metagross on the lvl it evolves to Metagross, on top of Pikachu being slower (actually, I guess a big lvl advantage would mean Metagross is slower here, not that it makes a huge difference as Pikachu defense is made of paper). Unless we're supposed to believe the Mega Metagross is like lvl 20 or less or something wild like that I guess

Shirona took out 2 of Satoshi's team before finally having something get knocked out and mostly by its own power being turned against it. And then she used destiny bond to take out Satoshi's ace, Pikachu.

I don't see Satoshi pulling off a comeback like he did against Shinji in the Diamond and Pearl quarterfinals. Certainly not against Shirona when she's retiring after the tournament and wants to defeat Dande to reclaim the title.

Yes. I stopped watching maybe halfway through this season, but Gengar is a jobber and Dragonite almost never gets used even when it's clearly the best choice. It's incredibly disappointing.

Unless something happened in the second half of Journeys, Pikachu has never had more than 4 moves at any given time. When it learns a new one, it quietly forgets an old one. It hasn't used Volt Tackle since it learned Electroweb.

IIRC, the only time the anime ever blatantly broke the 4 move rule was Drake's Dragonite during Orange Islands, which had 10. And that was an intentional decision by the writers to make it seem unstoppable.

Though I do vaguely recall one weird instance where Ash's Snorlax used 5 or 6 moves in one battle.

I think the move Ashs pikachu used was a technique with thunderbolt and hydro pump he developed to fight against Fantina. His pokemon spins while using the move to make it whirl into a spread atk that's useful against mobile targets and or ones difficult to approach.

Ah right. It's still baffling to me that they got rid of Volt Tackle considering it's Pikachu's signature move. I mean I get that they wanted it to learn new moves to keep things fresh, but they could have gotten rid of Quick Attack instead.

I mean at least the first two seasons they were basically an extended tutorial for the game.

Ah yeah I'll never forget turning on the sprinklers in the gym so my electric attacks could hit ground types.

And who could forget aiming for the horn?

Pikachu stopped using quick attack when it learned Volt Tackle. I think it stopped using agility then as well.

Curious if they have any intention to retire Ash after this. Resetting him each generation has always been silly, but resetting him after he might potentially reign over all the champions as well is eve sillier.

Even if he looses to Leon hes still the worlds second best so where the fuck does he go from that? As much as retiring him makes the most sense.
