Really fucking hate that. If other people want challenge that's fine, but removing the option is just annoying. Now all those healing items and invincibility items are useless because I already beat the regular game without them.

Different but similar, in Hyrule Warriors U/Legends/Definitive, you can gather like a million heart pieces and heart containers, but they're frequently useless since you can't get an A rank if you take more than a few points of damage per mission anyway and all the interesting mission rewards are locked behind A ranks.

The dlc dungeon in breath of the wild really pissed me off because of this, the game was literally about me collecting all these items and weapons and cooking items, and for them to be rendered useless when I need them the most is beyond aggravating (not to mention the reward for beating the bonus dungeon is lamer than the hilarious korok seed quest reward)

i'm not saying use them, you don't even have to use them. don't waste time collecting them just to hoard, though!

And the witch trials in Bayonetta 2 don't let you use items, nor does the final superboss. If they just let me use those, I could still manage to beat them even with the jump up in difficulty they present

It's coming into contact with the items organically through exploration and finding rare treasures chests. Same with leveling up, it's not about level grinding it's about leveling up naturally through exploring the world and dungeons etc.
