It's personally more comforting to me than imagining the traditional Christian afterlife is real. I don't like thinking about people going to Hell since there's very few people that deserve eternal suffering in my eyes. I think on a more ontological level I think this question really depends on what your understanding of self is. What is me, or what constitutes "me"? Is it our body? To what extent? Or is it just our pure conscious?
