I feel like I'd only use it when I'm too lazy to grab my phone out of my pocket

Going to get the new Apple Watch to help track heart rate during workouts

Before the past month I probably wouldve had the same opinion

nothing worth using it for. i guess it could be an expensive step counter/heartrate monitor? but i bought some like $20 band that can do all that and link it to my phone. just doesn't have a screen or anything on it so smart watch would be more convenient if i wanted to do that but then need to pay a monthly cost if you wanna use it without having your phone on you.

It's 100% for being too lazy to get your phone out of your pocket. Why do you think Google doesn't care how bad their smartwatches are? They want that phone in your hands. Source: My Android Wear turns off unpredictably and can't be turned on except by the charger but always claims to have >50% battery

Pretty much what you said. I only use it when Im outside so I dont need to grab my phone every time.

Other smaller benefits:
1. Track oxygen rate, useful with covid
2. Track falls and call emergency contacts: Hope I never it but it is nice to have
3. When running/walking can track your path on the map which is nice to look at. Probably the phone can do it as well.
4. Some models you can use maps from it, useful when walking in places where you do not want to pull out your phone or if you are walking and talking with someone.
5. Tracks your sleep quality / time. Have to sleep with it on your wristband though.
6. If is waterproof you can use it while swimming to still look at your texts.

It will be interesting to see how the pixel watch turns out, releasing this autumn iirc.

Useful for me when I need to keep track of my notifications if I can't or I'm unable to reach my phone.

Comes in handy, say, during medical rounds at the hospital (lasts up to 4 hours depending on the team/service) when I'm doing multiple things at once. My Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is an LTE model too so I don't even need to bring my phone for any reason.

On the health/fitness side of things, it'll track all my health metrics in the background and alert me to high/low HR or if I need to get up and move. I can also run an ECG when ever I want (I have a heart murmur) in addition to checking my body composition. The watch can even take a blood pressure reading but the FDA has yet to clear that functionality.
