I dont know too many taxis that provide life saving services on the way to the destination

Its more like a private limo and the owner can charge whatever theyd like.

One of my old high school classmates was in a crash at the hospital intersection. The 500 foot ambulance drive cost her $5,000.

One of our elected officials thinks an ambulance will give a 12 year old rape victim a ride to Walmart so she can get plan B

Just to give an explanation. It's more like a mobile medical trauma bay than a taxi. Yeah, they main goal is to get the person to the hospital, but they're trained and equiped to deal with life and death situations and have to act fast.

It IS super expensive, so it should be a true emergency option only.

I earnestly hope that no one ever calls an ambulance for me

In my country, an Ambulance visit is like 150 bucks a pop, and isn't an urgent bill which is reasonable enough.
They've had to do a PSA to remind people of exactly this. Too many are using it as a literal hospital taxi service to skip queues when they just feel normal sick and are flooding A&E with minor bullshit that a GP can sort.

I always wanted to know how the cost breaks down as to why it's $2500+ and the saints inside only get paid a dollar more than McD workers
