It wasnt an accident while docking. She was heading to the English Channel as part of her 5th voyage when she collided with a cruiser. Their insurer refused to pay out due to the Olympic being at fault in the collision. The accident while docking in New York during her maiden voyage didnt do any damage. Plus both the Olympic and the Titanic were insured based on the idea they were unsinkable, not just the Titanic. As for whether they refused to insure the Olympic any further, I cant say for sure one way or the other since Ive never read anything about that, but since she sailed for another 24 years Id assume there must have been insurance.

The Olympic was in an accident while docking that caused structural damage to its hull which shortened its life. The insurance companies paid out, but then refused to insure the ship any further. Meanwhile, the Titanic was insured based on the idea that it was new and that it was unsinkable.

The conspiracy theory goes that the Olympic and the Titanic had their names secretly swapped so if the Olympic (fake Titanic) ever sank they could collect insurance on it. Furthermore, it was this past hull damage in the Olympic (fake Titanic) that caused it to sink so easily when it struck the iceberg. The ship company collected the insurance money. Meanwhile, the Titanic kept puttering on after its supposed sinking under the name "The Olympic."

The conspiracy theory is easily disproven by the fact that there are visible structural differences between the ships if you know where to look. The wreck matched pictures of the Titanic in the shipyards and before it sailed, which really should have put that conspiracy to rest.

The wreckage photos show a ship with the port holes that match the Olympic. The two ships werent completely identical but very similar. Also ready that a part of the Titanic that is on display has the number markings of the Olympic.
the theory has some validity to it. Also have this other side part about JP Morgan promising to be on the boat to prove how reliable it was but he cancelled last minute and some of his expensive artwork on the ship was removed prior too. Some of his rivals in the banking industry were on that ship and died.

This stupid tweet got more attention from this topic than it did on Twitter.
