Houston flight delayed after passenger airdrops naked pictures to entire plane

The pilot threatened to deplane and get security involved if the culprit didn't stop sending naked photos to everyone on board, including him

Imagine yourself sitting on a plane at Houston's Hobby Airport as you get set to take off for a dreamy vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Then: Ping. Nude photos start showing up on your phone -- and they're being airdropped from another passenger!
Yes, it really happened and the photos went to everyone on the Southwest Airlines flight, including the crew, according to CNN. The pilot wasn't amused and threatened to return to the gate if the culprit didn't cut it out.

I wonder if you could airdrop pics to a plane still parked at the gateway?

In order for airdrop to work, each device has to be connected to wifi, Bluetooth on, and also for a stranger to send it to you, it needs to be set to receive from everyone and not contacts only

so youre telling almost every person on that plane allowed their phones to receive airdrops from strangers

This reminds me of a kid in my grade who got expelled for going into the computer network and sending porn to every computer in the elementary school computer lab. Im not going to say what it was, but the photo was legendary and it wasnt exactly a picture of a naked woman or two people having sex.

What are the default settings for airdrop?

i actually can answer this question because I used to work for apple. Its contacts only as the default

also when you get an airdrop and it doesnt just pop up. You have to hit accept to open it

Couple weeks ago a guy was arrested in my country for airdropping pictures of airplane crashes to fellow passengers before take off. The airline banned him from flying with them for the next 5 years.

If you buy a device set up to receive content from random strangers, expect content from random strangers. I don't see what this has to do with airplane security.

i can sort of believe, I cant tell how many times I had people do something on the phones and they had no idea what that features and it messes up their phone

but still highly unlikely

Are you saying dat some apps change airplay settings, and people just click yes when asked without realizing what dey are doing?

as far as Im aware for specifically airdrop - no but some apps will asked to change some settings such as location or access to mic

you have to manually go into settings to change airdrop settings

Thats what I was thinking, and Id bet at least 25% of IPhone users dont even use airdrop, so would have no reason to go into options and change the default settings.

Sensationalized headline for sure. Sounds like some of the passengers received it and reported it to the staff. It doesn't sound like the pilot even knew what air drop was lol.

"Marsalis declined but a woman in front of her showed her the photo.
Another woman got upset and told the flight attendant and they alerted the pilot, Marsalis said."
