Do I have a chance a couple months after the MVC2 one drops to get one?

Those cheap PoS? Not at all.

They are easy to get and crappy

They do go on sale sometimes so Black Friday might be a good time to get one.

Or just get a cheap one and mod it with a retro pi

You are better off just buying a full size cheap arcade cabinet and upgrading the CRT to a LCD and putting a Raspberry Pi in it.

How complicated is that? I've put together computers before but that's about the extent of my skill in hardware

I see the more common ones at Walmart a lot. But there have been some I saw when they first came out and then never again.

I would. Best Buy still has preorders available at the moment.

i bought this one (this first MvC cabinet):

and Ive never seen it available for sell again since. I feel slightly dumb but I sold that for above what I paid (700 vs buying it for 650) so I could get the MVC2 as a straight upgrade.

loved the side panels on the 1st one more. Im guessing youll have a shot again later, especially when it actually releases, but the MvCs arent like the cheap 300 MK or SF cabinets at Walmart where theyll always be available, at least not from what Ive seen.

So whats the idea behind this mentality?

like, they obviously suck compared to a real cabinet but they are 3/4 the scale for 1/4th the price.

Ive never had issues with any of mine, and aside from shit like the legacy cabs having raised edges, they all have solid quality considering I rent a room out to a 68 300 pound dude and he plays it with me just fine.

so genuinely curious, is it because people make their own cabs for cheaper or something? I have a few arcade 1ups but I dont know shit about the the technicals so wondering what the main flaws with them are.

can I buy the street fighter one and just hack it to play any game?

ya, you can swap raspberry PIs into them, Im sure you can do better than that too but thats the furthest Ive gotten. I turned one of mine to it, but the PI itself is kinda meh and its super hit or miss on the games performances. Still cool for the games that work well though.

Your question is not really commensurate. I was also just saying it sucks because another poster did, I mean "apparently sucks".

I made my initial post in this topic because I want to have a healthy socio-machinic function but the only relevant machine topic is about a cabinet that might suck

lol, fair enough in that case.

I know the brand itself is controversial and Ive seen people say they suck before but Ive yet to find anyone with an arcade 1up whos said it sucks aside from the joystick/buttons which obviously for the hardcore crowd theyll swap out with Sanwa buttons or something.

would love to hear from someone who hates them about their experience with them though.

Their normal cabinets often go on sale for like $150 around black friday, but that mvc2 cabinet may very well be extremely limited production and you won't see another run beyond what they sold out of during pre-orders.

Having been around them, the cabinet is smaller than it looks in pictures. It's pretty narrow and pretty short, even with the riser, so if you're a tall person you'll really need a bench or something to be comfortable playing it. I won't say that it's cheaply made, but it's definitely underwhelming once you've seen one in front of you.
