The combat is dull and the movement doesn't make up for it due to the level design.

Axiom has better movement with diffuser bug canceling. Dust has air special momentum canceling (sundered used to before it was patched out). La mulana is even more interesting, despite being drastically slower, due to rain dropping.

I gotta say, blasphemous is interesting to me because it controls like shit, but more than makes up for that with its world design. Not level design, that's generic and boring too, but the world and the art is exceptional.

I'm currently playing through Monster Sanctuary and have Astalon, Dandara, Phoenotopia: Awakening, Blaster Master Zero, and La-Mulana in my backlog. I eventually wanna get Environmental Station Alpha and Rabi-Ribi at some point because I generally hear good things about them. Also I know I already mentioned my top 2, but after thinking about it for a while here are some other favorites of mine(not counting Metroid/Castlevania/Hollow Knight) in no particular order:

Those four and Arkham Asylum are the only ones to come to mind.

Castlevania. Like I more than metriod

I played symphony of the night like 20 years late. Game still came across as a masterpiece to me.

Ironically the game that got me into metronidazole was castlevainia adventure. I was in between jobs and desperately wanting a new game. 3ds eshop had it for like 3 bucks I think. Fell in love. Shortly after plated through the nes ones then sotn.

Had played a ps2 one way before but it felt b grade to me. It was the one with Hector as the main character I believe. You could play Trevor in a second playthrough iirc

I read the topic title wrong.... I guess Archambault Asylum then. Haven't played many metroidvanias outside metriod and castlevania.

Also I didn't try out a lot of weapons I stuck to swords and ocassionly a knife. I just can't picture Alucard fighting with nunchucks or a makes staff.
